Can anyone recommend a solar PV installer in Surrey? I'm a retired sparks looking for a firm that knows what they're doing. Please PM me if you prefer.

no reason you can't do it yourself, there's no Feed in Tariff anymore, which was the only reason you needed an MCS regisytered company to fit a system.

I don't fancy crawling around on roofs any more, but I'd like an idea of which makes of panel, inverter etc. to seek/avoid, ta.

fair enough, you can check the MCS register for installers, or you could try finding a roofer who installs the panels / rails and do the electrics yourself.

Equipment wise, Schletter for the rails, Q Cell panels and Solis inverters. This gear offers good 'bang for your buck'. JA solar panels are fine, SMA inverters are the best, but too expensive these days. I don't like microinverters as this adds additional failure points on the roof where any problems are difficult to access.

Think you can only get a Tesla Powerwall via an authorised installer. They are probably the most expensive of all the batteries available.
correct, I used to be registered for those, but after trying to install the great behemoth of heavyness battery, I gave uo on them.

Pylontech batteries with Solax hybrid inverter is a good package.

Thanks binky. Do you know anything about Tesla powerwall?
It may have changed but I enquired about a Tesla powerwall in November for our system and was told it would be at least a year. They might have been pushing me to buy a battery they can get more mark up but don't know

There's been an awful lot of supply issues due to COVID and shipping issues. The only batteries that have been reliably available for the last year are the expensive ones that nobody wants to buy....
