Something we agree on.
(maybe not the climate change bit tho ;) )
Fossil fuels cannot be the ultimate answer,
And for sure, EVs are nothing more than a whim, at best, atm.
It's very similar to the windmill con, tell me again what friend of a friend in parliament has a shitload of shares in wind farms,???
Just more snake oil lining someone's pocket
Don't get me wrong, windfarms do work, but in the UK they were/are being erected for all the wrong reasons, by the wrong people, and all for a big brown envelope.
Future tech is just that, for the future, and that may well be EVs, but not now, not until they can be manufactured at a reasonable carbon level, and charged fossil fuel free, and decent battery lifespan and range, none of this is achievable right now at a cost a normal person can afford, even reasonable affluent folks can't afford a decent EV outright, any idiot I know that has one is either on lease or tick, mostly lease, which isn't probably a bad idea as they will be worth less than my 15 yo van in 5 years.
steady on now!

I'll convince you of climate change one day :ROFLMAO:

fact is money goes to money, that's life under a free market economy. Even my own little PV array is making me some dosh ( and I deserve it ;)) Its money that has also forced wind turbines off-shore, coz they dont want their view spoiling from their stately homes, costing us all a lot more money to build, a cost that will end up on your bills.

Very carbon friendly,
Tell me again, why did you buy an EV,?
Ah, ok, to charge it from the grid that generates electricity by burning fossil fuels, :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Ah, at least you feel good about protecting the planet

78 miles on a charge,
Where are you going, the local shop,?
That's a perfect example of how EVs are impractical for anyone that actually goes anywhere.
I've went further on the bus.
My electricity is 100% renewable matey ;) Also, for the record, even an EV running via coal powered electricity generation only creates 1/3 of onboard engine pollution.

I bought my Model S because it's absolutely awesome, the fact it saves me over £3500 a year to run over my last Petrol car and with no local emissions to boot, is a bonus.

I get 78 miles per night top up at 5p during 4 hours, but I can charge for as long as I like at any time and the car has a range of over 250 miles at motorway speeds, on the occasion I go further, I supercharge in 30 mins whilst on coffee/toilet break and continue.

I'm surprised how uneducated you seem regarding EV matters, as an electrician, I'd have expected you'd be better informed than the average late adopter luddite!

A few figures for you
the running costs of an diesel van getting 35mpg at £1.99 a litre works out to be £2558 per year
the running costs of an electric van getting 3 miles/kWh at £0.29 per kWh works out to be £967 per year
So an overall saving of £1591 a year at todays prices
Couple that with reduced servicing costs and zero road fund license then you could easily be saving £2k or more dependant on your electricity tariff... some companies have EV tariffs which are similar to E7, but tend to give you 4 or 5 hours of cheaper electricity.... however these tariffs are not for everyone

On the flip side, a BEV Vivaro costs £369 +vat to lease while an ICE Vivaro costs £255 +vat .... per month (Global vans).... a cost difference of £1368 +vat a year

If you were looking to buy through a company (before the end of March 2023) then this purchase would also come under the super deduction, where you can set off 130% of the value of the van against your corporation tax

Zappi charge points are pretty solid and work well with solar PV and battery storage
Thanks noz

Is there a way to disengage the drive if it breaks down for towing or even getting it onto a truck? I seem to remember seeing a video of a new Range Rover that stopped in the fast lane and the recovery had to drag it up the ramp as wheels wouldn’t turn? Not an ideal situation for our beloved traffic officers to get the vehicle quickly off the road?
Electronic handbrake stuck on I expect. There is a manual emergency release handle somewhere which unlocks the gearbox and electronic handbrake. The recovery operator may not have known this.

I struggle with new cars, far too many gadgets for my liking, give me a series 1 landy any day :D

100% renewable is it matey, are you off grid then,?
No grid supplied electricity is 100% renewable, they just buy carbon credits,.
And your shiny EV is the equivalent carbon footprint to build as driving a diesel for 20 years.
You're obviously one of the holier than thou brigade that looks at it with blinkers and think you're actually doing good for the planet.
You then contradict yourself by saying "no local emissions" , so there are emissions somewhere then.???
30 mins to charge it up, LMFAO, and where are you finding one of them that actually works, or that even exists in the Highlands,?
You obviously don't get out much, sell your car and get the bus or tram when you do get out.
And the saving £3500 a year, add in your massive depreciation, see how that fares.

BTW, I'm far from uneducated on the subject, I just don't listen to the misinformation that gullible fools take as facts, I take the facts as facts, not sales patter for snake oil.

some new facts for you. What we need is more green electric generation, then diesel doesnt stand a chance.

That's all well and good,
But takes no account whatsoever of the carbon it takes to build an EV, mine the batteries etc, that is a massive part of an EV footprint before it even leaves the factory,
Oh, you need to put them in contact with @PaulieN , their emissions if they ran on fossil and not their own renewable, would be 1/3 of a Diesel, obviously Audi are doing something wrong.

Yep, but I only need one five minute fuel stop every 600 miles or so.
I know I might be wasting my time here, but just in case steptoe is open to some more honest up to date facts, if not others will find them useful...

try reading it properly, they are giving complete life span figures which includes manufacturing CO2 emmissions, and have a look at the second article, which compares Chinese made battery being used in Poland which still burns lots of coal, ie worst case scenario for EV

why I prefer hydrogen (or hybrid EV), despite it's inefficencies in production. What isn't being said, is a certain amount of life style change will be needed for EV, but is stopping every 250 miles or so a bad idea when driving? Not everyone drives like you do on a daily basis. Battery ranges will improve.

I'm going to gracefully bow out, because blinkered EV fans just do not want to know the truth, all I am getting is statistics spouted to me, statistics will say whatever the person paying for them wants them to say.
A wiser man than me once said there are 3 types of lies,
Lies
Damned Lies
and Statistics

If you don't want to study facts, ( I can't believe @PaulieN used Reuters as a source of facts LMFAO ), that just about sums up the intelligence of (some)EV owners , then that's up to you, but I think it says more about @PaulieN believing Reuters, than I need to carry on here,
Arguing with an idiot is fruitless, I will only end up being beat by experience.

If anyone can come up with actual facts, and not opinions or statistics, to back up their EV claims then I'm willing to listen.
As for @PaulieN , maybe apply to Audi as a consultant, you can obviously help them with you emission figures, you are a joke onto yourself.
