Thanks for the replies, all cct's have RCDs on, just wondered if I'd missed something in the regs. The owner was showing me what a nice shower room he had, I was there because two of the upstairs smoke alarms only come on when the bathroom light is switched on....

This shower room was built in the last 6 months. The washing machine is plugged into an IP66 socket directly behind it. 'Apparently' it was Building Control' who suggested this and it has been signed off. BGB p200, OSG p82 say 3 meters. Why is this OK?

Before putting the new fuse in it might be worth checking for dry joints on the circuit board, I had that recently on the microwave at work. Redid the joints and it's worked fine ever since :)

In the Electricians Guide to the BR's, Table 2.3.1, It gives a current rating for 70c flat thermoplastic etc cables. It lists -Inst Ref B - 10mm - 52A. and claims this to be taken from Table 4D5 of BS7671. if that helps...

Wise words so far :) Ask every one you know friends and family etc if they want any work doing see what response you get. Ask to have a look at their CU and if they would genuinly benefit from an replacement explain the benefits and give them a rough idea of the cost. Remember lots of people...

Very useful post :) I have just done a quick check with my Metrel and got: Zs (rcd)=0.32 and Ze (R1+R2)=0.37 on the same circuit
