As other guys have mentioned, changing the sub DB RCBO for type A and if it really is a prob could you put an SPD in sub DB if room?
Or change/install main isolator incorporating an SPD?
If it’s a flat in a converted building, it maybe powering communal area lighting or something of that nature.
I’ve seen this before in converted properties.
Definitely needs investigation and recommend new meter as @binky suggests
Was my discussion with my client at the time too but budget isn’t there.
I’d only went to change 3 spots in the bathroom which then resulted in a failed RCD, unfortunately 2nd hand RCD was only option. Fortunately RCD tested fine and added bonus of an A type.
Thank you all for advice and comments and based on all of this I’m able to make an engineering judgement……….to which I’ll hold you all responsible 😂😂
Joking aside thank you again, have taking all on board advice and comments 👍🏻👍🏻
This is exactly same position Im in.
Client is happy to go ahead with my suggestion which seems to be the only viable option as others have mentioned.
Im aware of fleetings concerns regarding class 2 as a form of ads and the
thank you murdoch
I didn’t realise the level of info in this...
Ah ok, this is why I’d thought I’d ask.
I realise ads will not be achieved via the lighting circuits, hence assuming this would then be a departure.
the rewire really isn’t a viable option and I’m not aware or experienced any other options?
Any other options out there for this scenario?

Little advice from the wise please and thank you.
Recent EICR found old 2wire double insulated lighting circuits with some metal class 1 fittings in a domestic property.
Client cannot afford the rewire option along with the decorative works that would also cause.
So my suggested...
Good morning guys and girls.
After some advice regarding off brand rcbo in DB's.
I've got a NOARK DB (installed by overs) which has got an AC type rcbo spare and I've tried to source an A type but have had no luck.
Its a Chinese brand DB which dont use busbar connections and is all tri-rated...
If you have a 3ph supply there are dual point EV points (untethered) mind you.
This installed with the load protect as mentioned above could work nicely.
Failing that would generally recommend Zappi’s as they have all the curtailment to protect main fuse etc.
Hi guys
I’ve tried researching the orders of RCD/RCBO placement in relation to type.
Am I correct in saying installing an AC type upstream of an A type can still blind the A type?
And is this the case in reverse?
A TYPE upstream of an AC type?
Appreciate there has prop been a discussion on...
