    DC cable

Thanks, I'm going to use plastic conduit. The supply to the CU will be SWA so that's that issue taken care of. All will be free from mechanical damage risk, my main concern is rodents chewing as I've had that before in another barn where the ''electrician'' had just nailed twin and earth around...

Rodents won't chew plastic trunking, or flex conduit. They will chew exposed wire potentially. Do you have an answer to my straightforward question regarding the regs or are you just here to play ping pong?

    DC cable

Indeed. All my AC stuff is in galv trunking and conduit. I only ever use singles, metal clad fitting etc. I think I probably worded the question badly, so I'll try again. Is there any reg. preventing me from doing this? (visible for inspection etc) Going by the bird's nest soup arrangement I...

    DC cable

Good afternoon all. I need to purchase some of that high voltage proper DC solar cable for my DIY installation. Regarding the regs, can I use just black wire or do I need to buy some red wire for the +ve side of the circuit? I looked under a professional installation at a local public school a...

    Solar install

As I understand it the price they pay to buy your electrickery is peanuts, which sounds nuts to me given that Boris is rushing out nuclear plants to plug a hole in production. Given that we have weeks of poor light in winter I wonder if you could just go off-grid in summer only? Say 6 months on...

    Solar panel mounting (mechanical aspects)

Thanks chaps, I have looked at many commercial triangular support frames and decided that they are nothing more than three lengths of aluminium angle with lots of superfluous holes in the things. I live in a windy spot up a hill so I kind of decided that any fixings needed to go into the purlins...

    Solar panel mounting (mechanical aspects)

Thanks binky, your reply set me off on a Google search. Basically I think the solution is quite easy to get them pointing in a favourable direction and keeping them clean, which is something I hadn't considered. There's panel adjustable triangle support frames available - these are just three...

    Solar panel mounting (mechanical aspects)

Good evening everyone, I intend to DIY install a small PV system with simple grid tie inverter. Just a cheap as you can but everything done properly. I have an steel portal frame building that's 45' by 16', the roof is steel box section fixed to wooden purlins - entirely standard agricultural...
