Is your soundcard the onboard type (integrated with the motherboard), or is it a 3rd party model? If it is integrated, post back the make & model of the motherboard. If it is a 3rd party component, post back with the make & model of soundcard.

Seen this a few times, it's invariably a driver problem. I'd start by uninstalling the soundcard (remove the drivers), then reinstall known correct drivers.

I did read the reports Steve. While MS had to release a patch to cover up just the one flaw that had been discovered, Mozilla had to release 8 this month to cover up the holes in their offering that would allow an attacker to compromise the target system and take control.

Every time somebody discovers something wrong with an MS product, it is always described as a 'major' flaw. What does make me smile though is that people think they are safer with Firefox, yet it is no more or no less secure than IE.
