New Induction Hob No Earth Terminal

If you see this class 2 symbol (⧈) on the rating plate on the hob, it doesn't require an earth connection.

    Socket Tester

Sounds like the neutral ring is broken somewhere, you can can still have neutral at a socket with a broken ring. A socket tester won't be able to tell you whether the ring is broken... what's the issue?

Anyone else think this is a daft CU configuration?

Another thing, how much extra time would it take to actually label the board appropriately or have a schedule nearby. I hate it when I come across a board with "sockets" on so many MCBs, it means almost nothing!

Anyone else think this is a daft CU configuration?

Haven't fitted a dual split board for a long time, only do full RCBO boards with SPD fitted. If they don't agree to that, they can go elsewhere IMO. Any time I've seen a recently installed dual split board, the install has been shoddy - likely because it's been fitted the by a builder, not an...

Earth Leakage - Martindale Clamp Meter

Thanks @Murdoch - 2 DBs, all circuits protected by RCD although I only put the clamp on the meter tails for the DB affected.

Earth Leakage - Martindale Clamp Meter

Well of course, RCD ramp test was OK @ 21ms during 30mA load and trip times for x1/2, x1 and x5 all OK.

Earth Leakage - Martindale Clamp Meter

Hi all I recently attended to a call-out to intermittent RCD tripping on a dual RCD board. Got out my Martindale CM69 TRMS Earth Leakage Clamp Meter and put them around the tails and switched on a circuit at a time, the leakage was significant, hundreds of milliamps, RCD didn't trip. Measured...

    "Plug and play hob"

Appreciate all the comments. I agree it wont be a problem but is frustrating that AO and Bosch make it clear that it will not need a dedicated circuit as it contains power management. Anyway, I think the client has now opted for a hob which is rated at under 3kW on the site. @michael8554...

Hello all, I have a customer which went and bought a "plug and play" induction hob from AO but when they came to deliver and install had said it needs a dedicated circuit as its over 3kW. It is a Bosch pug61raa5b...

Options to protect cables entering consumer unit

Nothing wrong with using standard grommets, but if I'm doing the effort of removing all cables and starting from scratch I may as well use fire grommets or a gland... personal preference and best for IP in my opinion.

Texecom Premier Elite - Smoke alarm replacement

Hello all, I have a customer which has a Texecom Premier Elite intruder alarm system with wireless linked smoke alarms throughout. One of the smoke alarms (OH-W) detector has become faulty and requires replacement. Does anyone have advice on how to remove the existing detector from the system...

Options to protect cables entering consumer unit

Hello all I'm doing some remedial work following an unsatisfactory EICR I carried out. One of the things to do is to provide mechanical protection to the cables entering the consumer unit. They were simply lashed in through the knockouts without any grommet or gland. The property is currently...

Ford Transit Custom on order for a year!

The issue is that I am leasing through another company, not directly through Ford. I have already tried haggling but to no avail, they basically said you can cancel and I'd get the deposit back.

Ford Transit Custom on order for a year!

Hello all, Wanted to know if anyone has managed to get their hands a on a new Ford Transit Custom (on lease) within the last year? I placed an order in March 2022, it has been built, registration number issued and has been sitting at port in Belgium since October 2022. The leasing company push...

Sub Fuse Box Wiring to BS7671

So the upstairs consumer unit is not fed from the downstairs consumer unit. The meter tails going to the upstairs consumer unit should either be redone with SWA, or a switched fuse installed at the origin, such as: Fused Switch
