    Starting Off

Hi ptaz, Ive spent the past 3 & a half years doing the college training thats required, (still not finished) so I can probably give you a few pointers. The courses & qualifications most employers would be looking for are: City & guilds 2330 level 2                        City...

    Installing On A Tt System

Hi, Could someone please confirm that I am thinking along the right lines with this. (Ive never worked on a TT system) Just as an example........Say I install a circuit on a TT system. The Ze reading is 16 ohms  The R1 + R2 reading is 0.25 ohms. So if i calculated the Zs, it would be 16.25...

    Sbs Trade Sales

Thanks for the reply Dave. That's fair enough. I can see the logic in what your saying. I've just never seen an explanation before, from the various manufacturers, for why to use or not to use an earth fly lead. Cheers

    Sbs Trade Sales

Hi, I`ve just been having a look at these compact RCBOs. So.......I understand they use a dual busbar, which gets rid of the neutral fly lead. But....... why doesnt it require an earth fly lead, like the normal size RCBOs ? Cheers

Using Rcbo`s Instead Of An Rcd

Im currently serving a 4 year apprenticeship.  The majority of my work involves working on  large commercial building projects that can last over twelve months. Its quite rare for me to get any hands on testing experience on these jobs, as they involve alot of installation time.  However, I...

Using Rcbo`s Instead Of An Rcd

At college I was taught that at this point of live testing, all covers should be in place on the consumer unit & accessories. Then to prevent touching live parts, test the RCD at a socket outlet that it protects.  (using the plug in lead with the multi function tester) X  1 X  5 X  0.5...

Using Rcbo`s Instead Of An Rcd

Hello all, This is just a query I was thinking about, & not an actual installation. If i was going to install a new consumer unit in a domestic installation, a way to minimise the inconvenience of possible nuisance tripping could be to use RCBO`s instead of using a split board with 2...

    Advice Needed On Test Results

Well........I`ve managed to sort the dodgy ring circuit. Lucky for me, it was the leg at the low level socket. Whoever fitted the skirting board, stuck 2 nails right in line with the cables. The nail that hit the cable went straight through the earth, & half of the line conductor. (pics...

    Advice Needed On Test Results

Thats what im gonna find out tomorrow. I was thinking about cutting the dodgy length of cable in half. (from below in the cellar) Then testing to see which half is faulty. Replace this half. Join the 2 cables in a junction box. Is it acceptable to have a junction box on a ring ?  (It will...

    Advice Needed On Test Results

I was thinking of trying something like this. Not sure if the cable is clipped, or in capping under the plaster, but its gotta be worth a try. :Pray The annoying thing is, this looks like the newest circuit in the house. I reckon it was put in with the kitchen about 5 years ago. Probably...

    Advice Needed On Test Results

Thanks for your help guys. So............ i`ve managed to locate which part of the ring has the break in the CPC. The good news is, I can see the cable from underneath in the cellar. (this looks ok) The bad news is, the cable goes up the wall to a socket above the work top. Which is burried...
