Do I need Solaredge Power Optimizers?

I know they work nothing like SE. But I would personally rather put a single optimiser in a single panel than be tied into what is effectively a proprietary system for very little gain in THIS case.

Do I need Solaredge Power Optimizers?

Everybody will have their own opinion on that. To some extent it will depend on the battery (if you’re getting one) as some only support certain battery manufacturers. I would just rather have a more generic setup where elements can be replaced possibly cheaper than being tied into proprietary...

Do I need Solaredge Power Optimizers?

Personally if it’s only one panel I wouldn’t use Solar Edge. I’d think about a Tigo Optimiser on that single panel which then gives you more inverter options.

Selection of panels and question concerning the installation

I’m sorry I can’t answer on any physical problems. Just pointing out that here in the UK, the MCS guidelines for their installers state there must be a margin from the edge of the roof to where the panels begin. I think it’s 30cm.

Selection of panels and question concerning the installation

I’ve never heard of either of those panels. But on your last point, MCS guidelines wouldn’t permit that. Not saying it can’t be done or would be a problem but presumably there’s a reason for that guideline.

    Have I F'd up?

No - I’m talking about their basic HV range - the ones that look like Pylontech.

    Have I F'd up?

I’m fairly sure Fox inverters are designed to work with high voltage batteries like their own HV range.

    Solar Edge quote - eek

I’ve received a quote for 8 x Trina Vertex S+ 415w panels, 8 x Solar Edge optimisers and a Solar Edge 3.6kw inverter. I’ve priced these at Midsummer and it comes to £3000. The quote, excluding scaffolding, is £7400. Scaffolding quoted at £800. Additionally, the 10kw/h Solar Edge battery was...

    Backup loads

Thanks guys. We don’t have regular power cuts. Was just curious.

    Backup loads

So in that instance, say you had the oven, kettle, etc on which took you over 3.6kw and there was a power outage, if the inverter then kicks in what will happen if the demand is too great - something will just trip?

    Backup loads

    Thank you,

    Backup loads

Many inverters have an output for backup loads in the event of a power failure. How does this work? Is it literally a cable going from the inverter into the relevant consumer unit way - eg downstairs/upstairs lights? Ta all.

Best way of wiring this array

This is a diagram of what our ten panel will look like on the roof. The four panels on the right in blue are shaded till about 9.30am by the neighbours house. The sun moves right to left so panels 4 and 9 will clear first and then 5 and 10. The orange line shows shading from the chimney in...

    Growatt 3600 - String voltages - MPPT1&2

Ok thanks. To a lesser extent it looks as if it does something similar just before it shuts down, goes down, jumps up a tad before finally shutting down. This is a slight concern I have with the Givenegry inverter I have on order. It has quite a high 150v startup requirement and each MPPT has...

    Growatt 3600 - String voltages - MPPT1&2

That’s an interesting graph. What would have caused that drop back from 140 to 100 before shooting all the way up at the beginning of the day?
