Hi looking for some advice and info, I am using a 3KVA/2400W Solar Inverter with two series batteries and 2 solar panels each capable of 320w. The inverter is a grid tie-in and ups style design with an Mppt charge controller. My question is, I like to also add a wind turbine for nighttime charging, are i am correct in saying that all i need is a wind turbine charge controller to charge the batteries or will this give back feed into the solar charge controller and what cables would i need to connect the charge wind turbine controller to the batteries, same size as to the inverter or can they be smaller? Also what happens when the batteries get full? Do I need a dump resistor, will the charge controller be enough? Wish to avoid overcharging.

Any ideas or tips are welcome.
 
I suggest you read This topic first, then buy an anemometer. (And please let us know what the anemometer says)
Thank you i did, but want to go ahead anyway as it will produce enough for my needs and it will be on the bottom of our garden but need to make sure I get the right equipment to go with it.
I am in the UK Scotland and out of the experience with a handheld anemometer and from web data The windier part of the year lasts for 5.3 months, from October 24 to April 1, with average wind speeds of more than 12.9 miles per hour around 5 meters per second I have seen a turbine for sale with a video as a sales pitch showing an output of about 250 watts at about 10mph per hour, which is enough for my set up as I only run lights PC and tv and a router and printer(max during the day about 500 watts at night no more than 100watt), but as I only use 100 watts at night I would be content with that. Also if the turbine does not produce what is claimed in the video it can be sent back for a refund under UK law.
So if you can humor me and tell me if a charge controller on its own is enough I would be grateful
 
it's a bit of a minefield unless the inverter has been designed for a wind input aswell, and the only inverters I've found to date that work that way are off-grid units, or designed to work with leisure batteries. NB, I havn't looked for a while. Mastervolt do a small grid tied inverter for wind, but that doesn't connect to batteries. So it might be worth thinking of the wind topping up your mains supply and leaving the batteries out of it. It might also be worth looking at Victron gear, or contacting the battery manufacturer to see if they have any advice.

I have myself played with 2 differant turbines. My advise is to make sure it's location is correct. My mistake was placing my concreat base in the wrong position and a tree was actually causing turbulent issues. I would spend time reading wind direction around the area you may consider for a wind turbine. Any structure near one no matter what size could have an affect even behind one. I now have up as it should have been positioned in a higher open area. I used a 4kw turbine .
