Can a FIT generation meter be wired in differently to make it an IMP/EXP meter?

Hi all,

Was hoping someone could shed some light on this please.

We've had our solar+battery system in place over a month now and after much tweaking by myself and the installers is now working well, but I started to think about possible SEG payments.

Looking at the "solar meter" (emlite eca2.nz) our installers put in the meter box, the readings show IMP, EXP & NET figures, however the IMP figure never moves and the EXP is going up nicely but it seems to show roughly double what we're exporting according to the growatt software (and I trust that). And I think it's because the meter has been wired to measure generation, not imp/exp, i.e. suitable for FIT payments which is fine except the scheme is closed, and not suitable for SEG payments.

It's not a huge deal as we're probably talking £10/month at best for SEG but I'm curious as to whether it could have been wired differently to be an actual import/export meter suitable for submitting manual export figures to our supplier? e.g. putting it inline with the grid meter or something like that?

Did wiring instructions for meters change when FIT was replaced by SEG?

If not, no problem, we'll just wait till our energy company fits us a smart meter.

All input appreciated thanks

You'd need you main meter changing to a smart meter, this will then measure import and export.

The reason your solar meter is reading roughly double of what the Growatt software says you've exported is because you've used roughly half of what you've generated, so its not been exported.
