Changing motor capacitor

I have a swimming pool pump which is a single speed, I've bought a Certikin vari-speed controller, when selecting a slower speed the pump goes into priming mode (full speed) for a couple of minutes which is normal, then reverts to the slower speed, but this doesn't work with my pump as there's not enough power to kick it over at the slower speed, I have to hand start it with a flick of the fan, then it runs perfectly, I read that the controller works with 95% of pumps, so it looks like mine is in the other 5%!
I was just wondering if it would be possible to change the cap so it would kick over with the slower speed but without burning out the windings?

it sounds like you have the wrong size VSD for your pump

Thank you so much, the one I bought said it would run all pumps between 1hp & 2hp.

If you have that promise in writing, then challenge the supplier. They may give you an upgrade.

Are you sure you ordered the correct one?
Site I have just looked at said "Be sure you order the correct one" they then list 2 options.
Pumps up to 1HP
Pumps up to 2 HP

I know upto means it could also be less than, but why make 2 units if one will do.

Since your pump is only 1HP I suggest you have the wrong one (It also says the unit is slightly overrated)

Why did you not test the capacitors from the begining. Most meters have this feature.

There's 1HP written on the pump motor.

There's nothing wrong with the cap, I've tried another new one, it's the kick over with the slower speed, probably the windings are not compatible with the controller, anyway, all is not lost as I can run at a slower speed with a flick of the fan, it then runs 24/7. It's a shame though that I can't use the automated timed mode.
