Hi. I have replaced a room pir with a door contact and mounted reed switch and magnet in close proximity. The alarm sets and when zone tested the alarm activates. When I full set the alarm panel the opening door doesn't activate the alarm whether set on entry/exit mode or guard. The system is a texecom eritas R8. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Roger

I presume you mean a Veritas R8? Since it works in "part set" but not in full set, you have programmed it wrong, if you didn't programme it, then someone else did. :)

You need to know the engineer code, and what the zone number is of the offending door, you then reprogramme it.

Programming info is in the manual. If you have lost it, Its here

Hi thank you for your prompt reply. Yes I meant R8,sorry. I have the engineers code and manual and know the zone. The zone is programmed to entry/exit. When I reinstall the original pir it works fine. Is there any other programming required by replacing the type of sensor
Regards Roger

The recommended way is to join the tampers to a spare terminal on the switch which I've done. Without this the system shows a tamper fault and will not set. Is it possible that the magnet needs rotating to change polarity against the reed

Thanks for your patience. I appreciate it. The live are connected to the silver terminals that are attached to each end of the reed. The tamper is connected to a unused terminal meant to be for joined cables. I'm beaten!. One again thanks for your patience

Let us start again. (I have to ask many questions, as you are there, I am not, so I can only see a computer screen.)
First there is no "live" so you made an error.
You also say you have changed a pir to a surface contact, since 99% of pirs are high up in a corner, how did you get the cable from high up, to the door? Did you join more cable on so it can reach?
Turning a magnet round makes no difference what so ever, so don't try.
Since a pir requires 6 wires, and a contact only 4 wires, what did you do with the other 2?

What happens if you twist the tamper pair together, but leave contact pair separated? Does the alarm actually set?
Pictures would also help.

Or perhaps he is getting confused and means it doesnt activate when the system is part set ?
