Solar PV system with not tied into the grid?

Get a commercial installer to the roof stuff etc and then do the rest yourself. Or you of course just carry on, who's likely to complain? J

    Another DIY solar install

The generation in winter is abysmal compared to summer. Tracking systems are good at following the sun across the sky but it seems an awful lot of complexity compare adding a few more panels. I don’t know the actual figures though.

    Another DIY solar install

It may have been better to start a new thread than adding to this one. (You are right, I have split his post) Lead Acid 'v' LifeP04 Lead acid you should only discharge to 50% so the 100a/h battery can only give yo 50a/h. The life span of lead acid is nowhere near as good as LifeP04 and the...

Life and efficiency of Solar Home Batteries

Do you think the manufacturers have some magical powers? At least if I make it myself I know that top quality cells have been used, I know it will be built properly, I will have full understanding of whats going on inside the box. Mine is going outside on a wall, if it wants to self combust it...

Growatt SPH3000 Stops discharging from 21:00 to 21:20.

Mine seems to keep testing the grid and kind of checking the voltage. It seems to reduce it's voltage until it takes a bit of import 10w or so and then increase the volatge so it its exporting slightly. The cycle repeats, it doesnt add up to qa lot of power, typically 1 kWh per day or thereabouts

Growatt SPH3000 Stops discharging from 21:00 to 21:20.

Mine still does this still having plenty of charge in the battery, why would it take 10 minutes to check insulation?

Thank you, Ill have a look.

Growatt SPH3000 Stops discharging from 21:00 to 21:20.

Whats to self check and why does it take so long? In my installation the inverter never stops due to solar PV and battery.

So are trains the Carbon Answer?

It looks promising for sure. Thanks for sharing

Growatt SPH3000 Stops discharging from 21:00 to 21:20.

Do you have solar PV as well? (the graph suggests you do). My Growatt SPH inverter does exactly the same at effectively sunrise and sunset, according to tech it's the inverter running a self diagnostic mode which I dont believe, but the timing tie with panels starting output and shutting down.

    E vehicle charging

When I first got my EV I designed, built and programmed my own wallbox. Theres on really one control line involved that uses various aspect of a 1kHz pilot signal. I have attached a PDF presentation from the OPEN EVSE group if you want to read further. Many people refer to the wall boxes as...

Life and efficiency of Solar Home Batteries

LOL oh dear Bob, there's no such thing as a 48v battery, they're all made up of 15 or 16 LifeP04 cells at 3.2v each. So the aging data I supplied is accurate and relevant. Even a car battery isn't 12v, its made up of 6 x 2v cells.

Life and efficiency of Solar Home Batteries

No, they go in series for many good reasons.

    DIY solar install

I'm not convinced, the grid tie aspect is synchronising the inverter output to the voltage and frequency of the grid so it can then increase voltage to feed appliances. Heres a wiki definition: "Grid-tie inverters convert DC electrical power into AC power suitable for injecting into the...

    DIY solar install

Thats isnt my understanding........ None Grid Tied / Off Grid My understanding is that all of the loads are connected to inverter only and inverter can several sources of power including grid / generator / solar / wind turbine / batteries. It works with or without a grid supply present Grid...

Not sure if this is worthwhile

Aye indeed, we only live 2 miles away so not much of an issue. Just need to find a suitable inverter that can run V2G or V2P

Not sure if this is worthwhile

I'm considering getting an old Leaf for this except, drive it in the daytime to my business premises and running the business on it. My off peak at home is 7.5p my business energy is 48p. Potential saving of £4k per year..........

    For an off grid inverter?

Not sure if this is worthwhile

I did consider this and the numbers really do work at the moment. The only issue that I forsee is the off peak rate going up.
