    Electric test fail.

eddy currents. basically how transformers work. same thing happening to the metal consumer unit. it can cause the steel to heat up. in reality, for domestic use, its not really an issue. as for changing MCB, cables must be suitably protected. swapping the MCB instead of finding the fault is...

    Electric test fail.

so basically admitting if he was quiet he would be requesting unnecessary work if tails are 25 then this is just creating work. open ring should be finding fault instead of just changing breaker. fault is still there, and loose connections (which it may be) could still over heat and cause a...

    Non-Notifiable work

no it doesn't. you've paid VAT on materials, fuel etc so customer is paying VAT, just indirectly. VAT registered will be more, but not 20% more

    Quick Question

that also reminds me of a job a few years ago. some cowboy replaced a load of highbays. existing lights had an IEC plug on the body and a flex with IEC socket plugged into them. they cut off the IEC socket and wago into the flex on the new lights. no box. all 60 of them. spent 2 days going...

    Quick Question

    Electric Gates

its from the stone age and has a few dip switches & pots. theres no setup menu to be able to do anything
  7. Andy™

    Electric Gates

like i said, you need to bypass it and its contacts are wired normally closed. this isn't the type of thing you should be ******* about with if you don't know what you are doing. you need someone competant to fix it properly. not the first idiot

    VSD Failure

maybe better labels / warnings on the isolators that they are for emergency / isolation only

    Non-Notifiable work

for the odd one off, not really much of an issue. he's semi ertired. few extra minutes writing out a cert isn't going to be problematic without paying for software. or just make your own forms in excel. no being held hostage to access your previous certs if you go to a different software or...

    Electric Gates

because its a safety device. its wired normally closed. removing / disconnecting it won't make any difference, it needs to be linked out
  11. Andy™

    Non-Notifiable work

why? you can use blank forms from BS7671. no need for software

    Electric Gates

you mean the box wired into CX & 2 that you couldn't find? still not made by came, just a generic box that's got their logo on it. like i also said earlier, its almost certainly got a dodgy cable in the ground
  13. Andy™

    Electric Gates

    I've already told you that
  14. Andy™

    Electric Gates

of course it doesn't. like i said in an earlier post, they are not the manufacturer of the gate, just some of the components. there is no full wiring diagram from came, just what the inputs / outputs on the control board do

    Electric Gates

£1300 for a motor change is excessive. only really ever gets to that if its an old motor and the foundation box also has to be changed. like a BFT sub with lack of grease on the bolts when installed. like most other stuff in your case, those are usually reasonable easy to change Came probably...

    Electric Gates

not such thing exists - you can get a manual for the controller & manuals for the motors, loop controller etc but but there isn't a manual for the complete gate as its fitted. you need to look at all different wiring from all different devices and how each connects and work back to what's...
  17. Andy™

    Electric Gates

that little box is nothing to do with the motor, and the motor is almost certainly not the problem to start with
  18. Andy™

    Electric Gates

basically a loop of wire in the ground, detects vehicles. you see them at traffic lights etc, that square cut in the tarmax in this case, they are used to detect vehicles in the gates opening / closing area and to stop movement. can also be used on barriers to open automatically etc

    Electric Gates

thats a loop controller. it wont cause your RCD to trip. once reset / powerered on the green light should not stay on. if it is, then youve got other issues too

Swapping an MCB on a Hager Consumer Unit
