    Lighting spur from socket circuit

Hi guys, Just after a bit if advice - Is it within the IEE wiring regulations to take a lighting fused spur from a socket circuit? I've just had a look through BS 6761 but there doesn't appear to be any mention of it.

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

Thanks guys, that really does make sense :)

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

If I use a 50A MCB in the main CU sparkytim, then surely a 40A / 30mA RCD would be sufficient provided that the garage load didn't exceed the RCD maximum load?

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

I trained as a domestic electrician through New Career Skills. It took me about 18 months to complete the course. I passed my C&G 2377, 2382 and 2392 and the EAL certificated domestic installer scheme. I came into the industry with no prior experience and worked hard to learn as quickly and...

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

Aye, that all makes sense Vet :) What I don't completely understand is, if for argument sake the RCD in the garage was 40A / 30mA, then surely the MCB at the main CU only has to be able to deal with the garage load (16+6) i.e. 32A MCB or bigger would be sufficient.

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

This whole 'these questions are basic' carry-on isn't needed. I'm the first to admit i've still got much to learn about the job and the industry. Just because I can put the NICEIC logo next to my name doesn't mean that all of a sudden i've got all the answers to all the questions. The reason I...

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

If the RCD in the garage CU is capable of carrying more current than the MCB in the main CU that will leave the MCB in the main CU susceptible to tripping surely

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

On a slightly different tangent - When feeding a garage CU from the main house CU does the MCB in the main house CU have to be the same size as the RCD main switch in the garage CU?

    Consumer Unit - Change

I've only recently registered with the NICEIC and, although it does seem that the questions i'm asking in this thread are basic, as I haven't so far had anything to do with the cut-out (including buying meter keys) I thought it best to pick the brains of the people on here.

    Consumer Unit - Change

It does seem so. There are 2 entry points in the wall - 1 to my CU and it would seem the other is for the flat above. How do I then kill the supply to my flat without killing the supply to the above flat?

    Consumer Unit - Change

So far I haven't had to go near the electrical cut-out. It's been explained to me previously how to kill the supply but as i've never had to do it (or seen it done) I just wanted to be clear about exactly what the process entails. Better to ask that try to blag it.

    Consumer Unit - Change

Aye, it looks like it. What would that mean? Does it have anything to do with the flat above ours?

    Consumer Unit - Change

There are 2 fuses in my outside cut-out (just had a wee look :Blushing ) Why would there be 2? And where do you get those triangular electricity meter keys?

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

That's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure.

I haven't m4tty. Do they charge for the privilege? How do you get access to the cut-out?

SWA supply to garage consumer unit

Are these normally situated outside KME?

    Consumer Unit - Change

Would the isolator go just prior to the consumer unit i.e. between the cut-out and consumer unit? What exactly do they look like / where can you get them?

    Consumer Unit - Change

How do you get access to it? And do you have to contact the DNO first?
