    recently qualified electricain advice

In my 7th year SE. First 6 months was scary, not much work and plenty of leaflet dropping, also did some PAT Testing as a sub-contactor. Following year was subbying again direct with firm at £25pph,i was doing industrial site work and panel building . So for the first 18 months it was not nice...

    stealth taxes

The UK is broke, if you think that is bad we now have a tax on dividends that have already paid CT, how bizarre is that? - expect it to get worse before it gets better..

    Electrical Test Board

I have built a few boards for training cos and I was provided with a doc and specifically how it was to be wired and with what components. I think the docs came from EAL or another awarding organisation. It involved open circuits, short circuits and high resistances using specific resistors all...

    What would your answer be?

WHat I would have done. Once I commit to a customer I rarely back out. I would never tell a customer I made a mistake under those circumstances,

    So 8th June.........

I don't know about legally , but if they didn't make profit or at least a good impression of future profits, there wouldn't be any shareholders, I wouldn't invest my hard earned in a company that said it would put the planet first and maybe, just maybe we might make a shilling or two.. SOD...

    So 8th June.........

Brown was chancellor and later PM, he was in charge of the regulatory bodies  from 1997 to 2010. He admits it was a failure on his watch but also states he was of the same thinking as most western economies. i.e. Sleepwalking.... I am only saying Brown because really he is the only elected (not...

    So 8th June.........

I think the best way to describe what happened was a Global Sleepwalk by Fed Reserve, BoE, ECB, our FSA - they simply did not understand how inter-linked the banks assets were. Its a bit like a company having a brand like say "Virgin" - lets say Virgins balance sheet is very healthy but...

    So 8th June.........

see earlier post - no big bang = no banks today as they were all being sucked up by US and Asia banks, Thatcher saved the industry and Brown ******** it up - simples really

    So 8th June.........

Equally ridiculous, its like saying minister removes driving tests when there are no vehicles. The financial instruments involved with the crash and the out of control capital depletion of the banks simply did not exist until 15 plus years after big bang. Hence it actually could have been...

    So 8th June.........

That's exactly how it was in 1984 when I applied for my first mortgage, my wife was in a low paid job, I was a student, I was on my third bank before I could have a sensible conversation about a mortgage. Anyway I arrange a mtg with bank and who pops up ? Not a bank employee but a sales rep for...

Really ? Where ? - Being SE all that helps is giving me more "shut down" time to get jobs done when no one is around . lol

    So 8th June.........

mervyn king wrote a cracking book called "The end of alchemy" - if you want to really understand the financial crisis and banking in general, recommend it,,

    So 8th June.........

endowments never guaranteed to pay off the loan, its not how they work. Even as a snotty 21 year old, I understood that and told the bank to shove it

Can this motor be reversed?......I think not, but..........

Truly valuable, the knowledge on here is awesome. I dare not ask how you managed to find the connection point of the two windings.... Well done. Best post for a long while

Is this phenomena widespread I ask?

Actually had to use the goop supplied by car maker once, hole was too big so I got some big fat screws and screwed them into the tyre to close the hole down, it actually worked and got me home, some 30 miles only stopping once to pump tyre up again... hee.. on run flats now, no spare, no jack
