    EICR’s

We had similar troubles; our priciple duty holder got an Email saying we were being taken off the PRS register as we had failed to respond to their request to provide evidence of 2391 quals.... wait, what request?.... they hadn't asked for it and thats why they hadn't got it, this just suddenly...

    EICR’s

Don't you have to be in a PRS scheme (which is normally tacked onto the side of your normal scam membership) to do them for private rented accomodation? Or is that just what the scams would prefer you beleive? Make sure you have imdemnity insurance as well as your standard public liability

    PME

Remember that you still need overcurrent protetcion, so you can't change out the switchfuse for an RCD, you need to add it in addition, chances are the easiest way is to see if lewden do a time day RCD to replace the main switch in the switchfuse. But, if this is completely separate from the...

    Strange ottermill fuse carrier

Hoping one of the older guys can shed some light on this Ottermill 100A BS3036 carrier, seems to be fitted with two pieces of 100A fusewire, but the weird thing is, the carrier looks like it was designed with two sets of holes for the fuse wire (why?, you don't need a choice of which side to...

Chose this part of the forum as i'm not a sparky

It sounds like there is a very high resistance/open neutral connetion, it is floating upto half supply voltage through capactive coupling, and your high resistance volt meter does not put any load on it, so you see that voltage, if you used a moving coil type meter it would likely be far lower...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Its a shame Deke ins't still around.... would you belive, it'll be three years in a few months?!

Adding a shower mcb to CU

But it does rely on there being RCD protection, and a suitable MCB still being available for the board. Pictures would help

Using multi-meter to check damp in plaster

Aldi have got some moisure meters in the middle aisle atm, think they are about six squids, https://www.aldi.co.uk/ferrex-moisture-sensor/p/803173437477202 it says no longer available on the website, but I picked on up on thursday evening (probbaly last weeks stock, but seemed to be plenty...

    Isolation switches

Ah, I see... the bit I was missing from the mental image was the switching for the light being this position rather than elsewhere and nothing made any kind of sense, I automatically picture bathroom lighting as being via a pullcord with an extra mental leap required to picture anything else...

    Isolation switches

I'm still not sure what hes getting at, but its late on a friday, so I'm not going to beat myself up about it, give us a clue? Does it involve the cirucit being three plated at the isolation swithc rather than anywhere else? As to the not suitable forn isolation, I think its because the...

    Isolation switches

If you wanted to leave some form of switching off for mechanical maintenance then you could replace them with a double pole secret key grid switch, opening live and switch wire, with neutral jointed through in the back?

Current/Load management system - Any advice please!

And bearing in mind that not all vehicles have a 3ph charger on board, you could find, that having fitted a load of 11kw points that all the load ends up on L1 anyway, I did think you could shuffle the phases along at each point to try and ensure it kept it balanced, but then if you have a load...

Non-Electrical... Who's had the fastest puncture in a new tyre???

couple of years ago was told they had a new van for me at the yard, planned a time move all gear over etc. Got there, told there is a slight snag... it was up on a jack with a wheel off and I had to go and fetch the wheel from the tire place before anything else. Yes the brand new van with about...

Stupid designs to solve a non-existent problem??

I think all The MK and Hager (ashley) Pendant sets you buy today are of the safety type, I expect a lot of the well known brands probably are? Screwfix rubbish or wholesaler own brands are probably not

Surveyor demands CU Cabinet changed to steel.

The building regulations contain no such requirement. The requirement comes from the British standard for electrical installations(BS7671) which has contained it since 2015. Interesting the official guience to part P of the building regulaltions (the approved document) dates from 2013 and...

    Model Number/Asbestos in Heater?

Thats a Panel heater, pretty sure its Dimpex and probably about 20 years old. Generally panel heaters didn't have asbestos in and the one in the picture won't Even in equipment which did contain it, its not a problem untill it needs to be opened up, left alone its fine

    Small Earth question.

Protective devices (inc RCBOs) do not limit fault current, they limit fault duration and through (mainly) that fault energy. Whats the Zdb at the board? If its a 60898 B32 and the Zdb is not *lower* than 0.09 then a *** packet calc suggests its easily OK

Just as well I never chuck anything away

A few years ago I'd given next door neighbour some materials to add an extra socket off a radial cirucit in his hallway (Hes the type that likes to do things himself and being during Covid was trying to minimise contact). I think I ended up looking at his fuseboard at some point, and found out...

    ROLEC caravan hook up issues

I've got two browned looking rolec C40 MCBs on a shelf at work, they would have only been carrying 32A, but tripped and when ovening up the chargepoint to reset (a complete game in itself - thanks rolec) the tripped MCB was clearly overheated from inside, there is no head damage on the terminals...
