    230v DC

You'll get a unsmoothed 240v RMS, with the negative parts of the supply flipped positive. Its when you add capacitors to smooth it that you'll end up with a 360v DC supply

    Use Red/Black Twin and Earth

And there will still be people oversleeving it with G/Y....

    1.5v DC probelms!

3V may or may not destroy it, depends on what it has been designed to accept, but unless its documented anywhere, then you best stick with the 1.5v. Trying it already is probably best described as a courageous decision.... You might just get away with one one of the LM2596 converter modules you...

Teaching Electricity in Year 6 help

What load are you applying to the circuit?, I only see reference, to a battery, cables and a meter, and no load (lamp, bell, burden resister, etc) its worth pointing out that if there is no load you won't see any difference as the open cirucit voltage will be unaffected by the increased...

Can you give us a photo of what exactly you have?

Twin Mains supply to double socket socket

RRP - Reddich Plastic Products - CEF own brand. Not sure if anyone else had the poor sense to do the same

Anyone know where I can get T8 tube electrical connectors from?

There used to be a catalogue that was just bits for lighting and there would be pages and pages of different tube holders, starter sockets etc. cant remember what it is called but ill call the wholsaler who had the acount with them on monday, if you had a picture of what you are looking for...

    Can’t install smart meter

The old Midlands electricity board area, which is now operated by western power distribution (basically the country is divided up into the same regions that the old area electricity boards were devided along, but now its privatised some companies operative the distribution for serveral areas but...

    When is Green not Green?

None of it is thought through properly. I'm looking at having to get rid of my runabout car because its struggling to get through the emmisons part of the MOT, and its looking like injectors which wouldnt be cost effective to change, the thing is, It never gets used much so I'm sure the cost to...

    Can’t install smart meter

As others have said, the problem does not seem to be that the black unit is there (which is the service head, needs to be there, should be there, and belongs to the distribution company) but rather that the fuse carrier is damaged and needs attention before they can pull the fuse to change the...

    domestic outside wall light connections

Thats because either way is fine, just bear in mind that some fittings can be a bit tight on connection space

EICR Tested - 2 weeks on, RCD keeps tripping

I that case, there is no garentee that its circuit 8 at fault, but its at least somewhat likely... If turning circuit 8 trips the RCD and the fault is *not* with cirucit 8, then it'll be being prompted to trip because of the loading that cirucit 8 brings on, if you were to unplug everything...

    A 6.6% pay rise?

I should imagine it'll have to happen, there will be a gradual 'shuffling up' across board over the next couple of years, partly driven by the fact that its inevitable that prices of goods will go up due to this. I do get the feeling we are just about to come into a few years of reasonably...

Any good brand for long lasting LED light bulbs out there?

And nowhere is this more true than with the current heat pumps debate, headline COP ratings are not applicable at the conditions when demand for heat is highest, where is all the electricty to run them comming from (From memory generation from gas is about 40% efficent, so if the COP drops much...

Any good brand for long lasting LED light bulbs out there?

Even without going to the extremes of those lamps, it should be possible to design an LED fitting that has a very long life, just don't run everything to its absolute limit and don't enginner component count down to the bare minimum, and don't use the cheapest components available. But thats not...

What do you do with your scrap?!

I think No and Yes. Its waste to be recycled if you are taking it for recyling, if you are re-using it then no its not waste, its reclaimed materials. Mights have a job convincing a jobsworth that you are going to re-install a load of paint covered accessories though!, Removed breakers you...

    Disconnection Times

Yes, and you should state that as the maximum discon. time on the cirucit schedule. Of course, makes little difference in practice, with 60898 B or C, if you are within the tabulated Zs then it'll be going out in less than 0.1s anyway, now a 400A feeder to the far end of a factory on BS88...

    GS23 Electrical safety on schools

The units in question are double wound transformers, centre tapped to earth through a 12K wire wound resister, so limiting shock voltage between line and earth to 115v and current to sub 10mA combined with a 1.25mA earth leakage device (actually a 5mA sensor, but the circuit is wound through it...

    GS23 Electrical safety on schools

Sorry, Absent mindedness (beginning to think I have ADHD, but thats another story) Not so much in need of it now, because I managed to write the document without it in the end. But was dealing with a situation where the question was being asked about whether the safe supply 'Blakley' units...
