Is this possibly caused by poor earthing?

A lot of power tools are deemed to have reinforced insulation but you are not likely to know the difference between double and reinforced as they use the same symbol of the two squares.

Is this possibly caused by poor earthing?

That doesn't make them Class II. Doesn't change the fact you can't use Class II as a means of protection in a dwelling and just because Class II parts may have been employed the normal rules for ADS apply.

    Wago wiring correctly

Each conductor the live, neutral and earth need separate connectors so you need three of them not just one or it will just create a dead short.

Is this possibly caused by poor earthing?

Installing plastic fittings in a dwelling due to the absence of cpcs does not rectify the situation as Class II protection should not be used in a dwelling.

    Outside Mains Sockets

As soon as you cut the armour the ends are no longer galvanised. Any moisture that comes into contact with this will create corrosion and this will creep up the armour.

how do i switch from an ancient switch to a new switch?

Looks like the remains of a wooden back box so maybe not as straightforward as originally thought especially if the switch is metal as there is almost certainly no cpcs.

how do i switch from an ancient switch to a new switch?

You then want a link across to the other Common using a piece of insulated wire, similar to what you have but don't reuse the bare wire. Went to survey a large factory in Bath 20 odd years ago and in the upper stores they had PolyButyl Jute singles strung across the ceiling, what the Americans called knob and tube. I was told none of that is live but it was and powered most of the lighting all Class I with no cpc.

Knowing the difference between imperial cable and metric?

The wiring in my house was on the cusp of the metric change and mine is all metric, two doors up from me they are imperial they must have used old stock. Cables in both properties are fine at 50+ years so age isn't necessarily a defining factor.
