Thanks Guys... esp Binky, Berserkerboy and the Forum

That's good to know, I'll have to look at switching, my additional system is making slow progress, but progress is progress.

Life and efficiency of Solar Home Batteries

@Bob Smith Put 16 in series and you have a 48v battery which can store 13.4kWh of leccie from your PV panels  Use the 304Ah version and you get 14.6kWh

Buying 2nd hand PV panels...how do I test them?

You can buy solar panel testers, no idea how reliable they are, but you need optimum sun and the panel at the optimum angle.

Can a FIT generation meter be wired in differently to make it an IMP/EXP meter?

You'd need you main meter changing to a smart meter, this will then measure import and export. The reason your solar meter is reading roughly double of what the Growatt software says you've exported is because you've used roughly half of what you've generated, so its not been exported.

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

I don't currently have any earnings (currently no battery), only pointing it out to make the OP aware of the possibility.

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

You are all missing some tricks with batteries. In the winter you can import and charge batteries at cheap rate (well you can anytime of the year, but little point in the summer), obviously depends how big your batteries are, and how quickly you can charge them. In the summer, when you have...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

DNO is UK Power Networks Single phase - I'm literally the first house on the connection from the transformer (which is next to our garage), which apparently works in our favour. You will need DNO approval, but won't necessarily need to move to 3 phase. It depends on the local networks...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

Just had approval from the DNO for an additional 9.4kw export, making total export of 13.08 kw including the existing system.

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

If you have AC batteries, then that will be another Inverter to add to your DNO application. Also if you have AC batteries, then the output from both arrays will be converted DC -> AC -> DC. If you DC connected batteries to the new array, so directly charging the batteries by DC via a SCC (solar...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

Well what they proposed would certainly invalidate your FITS system. If your two inverters are both 3.6kw, then total power is 7.2kw, even if you increased the number of panels on the new array it would still be a 3.6kw inverter, only if you go for a larger inverter would that value change. It's...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

Your panels will be connected to an inverter, or if they are DC connected to the battery you will have an inverter to covert the battery to 240v, what is the rating for the inverter? That is the figure you need, add that to your existing inverters rating. Are your batteries AC or DC connected...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

As Binky has said, what the DNO is looking for is the maximum power you could export. So the total of the installed inverters, and battery if that has its own inverter. I have an application in with my DNO, but am awaiting a reply. My project is still in the planning stage, I'm waiting on a...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

I appreciate how good Solaredge is, I have one of their inverters in my loft, 16 panels with optimisers on my roof, but I'm exploring options at the moment.

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

I know the MPPT chargers won't work as well, the question is how much worse, 5%, 10%, 50%, obviously it's not an easy or exact answer. Who's Andy? He's clearly an expert at YouTube, but certainly does not claim to be an expert at solar and battery storage, he will also admit when he's made...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

I’ve been watching more of Andy’s off grid garage journey, and it occurred to me at the weekend, from a simplicity and cost point it view it would be better to use four MPPT 150/35 charge controllers, with three panels on each string. Whilst this won’t work as well as SolarEdge optimisers with...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

The company doing the quote was quite happy for me to send the G99 application off, and just put their name as the electrician, so we'll have to wait and see how that goes. As this is being installed in a detached garage, and the existing power cable is useless, we'll need a new cable or two...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

@Berserkerboy I think you misunderstand. I fully intend on doing the G99. The question is whether I let a solar company that's only doing a quote apply, or whether I send the form in listing my ideal hardware. I've no idea what the solar company is going to apply for, and I've no idea if it...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

I totally agree, as how else can they give an accurate quote, I suspect most just bump the quote up to cover the unknown. What do you thing about the G99 application?
  19. R

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

I'm still getting some quotes, but one company seems to extremely thorough, they even want to do a site visit before quoting - scheduled for the 24th. I don't mind thorough, but they now want me to sign some paperwork so they can apply for a G99 on my behalf, surely that's not normal, and I...

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

Acytually if I had a Victron Multi Plus II as an inverter/charger, the batteries would be DC coupled wouldn't they?
