Question about Earthing my data equipment

I can't see any electrical safety reason why you would want to run a separate CPC back to the MET and it may even introduce new dangers. Each device in the rack will have it's own adequate earth through the supply lead and, unless they are Class II, will each incidentally export that earth...

Air Source Heat Pump - Efficient or Not - real data

I think the theory is that Legionella are omnipresent, but don't really grow well enough to present a danger in most conditions, and actually need to be breathed, in large numbers, in a aerosol to cause issues to humans who are not their intended host. Anywhere there is a biofilm (scum, aquatic...

    Builders Lucky Escape

I certainly don't see the fault as one way here. Bare 11kv cable at <300mm below soil level, really??? Assuming that it is on private property and not just outside the fence line, the 11kv DNO plant would probably have needed a wayleave and be paying rent so the householder should be aware it is...

Current/Load management system - Any advice please!

I think you misunderstood my calcs, I said 16A/charger average over the 12 hour night time period, to use in diversity calcs for cable and supply sizing. That is around 40kWh/car/day (1ph) or over 120 (3ph). For that not to be enough, all 19 garages would need to be stabling EVs that are all...

Current/Load management system - Any advice please!

Not at all sure about this. Fast charging then moving is a proper PITA, wouldn't want to do it at home (can't have a drink with dinner because car will need moving soon etc). Most people will want to arrive home, put car on charger, forget it until the morning. Shared fast chargers in a...

Current/Load management system - Any advice please!

Another way to look at this may be to look at the total daily charging requirement across all 19 garages at a point in the future when everyone is using an EV. This is presumably within the lifetime of whatever solution, certainly cabling, you put in now. Look at the likely average daily mileage...

    Bonding question

How so, surely the earth-neutral bond in a TN system will provide a low enough impedance that the fault current will open any protective device on the fault circuit. What scenario are you thinking about?

    Any telephone bods on here?

I think someone else has replied giving you the pinout, and just connecting the analog PBX to the router may or may not "just work" because there are some differences between what a real BT exchange analogue line did, and what a cheap ATA in a router does (things like line reversals at the end...

    Solax inveter tripping MCB

Obviously the problem of accessories being bodged into old non-standard enclosures where they are mechanically incompatible is a huge issue in the installed base out there. Type approval is a completely ridiculous solution that benefits literally nobody though. It just increases the cost of...

Help with installing a new US3000C Pylontech battery to existing hybrid system

Don't think the address DIP switches matter for a single stack, they are just about setting the ID for each master on big systems with a comms hub. Can be left on default for a single stack of batteries without a comms hub. Interestingly, looks like the Luxpower does either CANbus or RS485...

Help with installing a new US3000C Pylontech battery to existing hybrid system

I would go back to your installer at this point. I have no experience with the Luxpower and how it interfaces to the BMS, but at the very least it will probably need telling that there are more Ah than there were. Definitely don't go plugging cables into random places they weren't before, or try...

Help with installing a new US3000C Pylontech battery to existing hybrid system

Did you daisy chain the short RJ45 link cables between the batteries correctly (the battery with the empty Link0 is the master).

New consumer unit required - does it mean none fire rated down lighters need replacing?

Nice. How many people did it take to lift the Quattro up onto it's mounting? :)

New consumer unit required - does it mean none fire rated down lighters need replacing?

My own perspective is that it is not the cheapest kit, but definitely compares very well to all the marginally specced rubbish out there. Their background is in ship based systems which fits really well with architectures where you want to view the grid as just one possible source of energy...

New consumer unit required - does it mean none fire rated down lighters need replacing?

Yes, I've installed one, and yes, I would fit a fuse or MCB somewhere in the output circuit to protect the tails. The alternative is to ensure the tails and CU were big enough to pass the max available boosted output current. I don't know that off the shelf consumer units with 150A+ main...

New consumer unit required - does it mean none fire rated down lighters need replacing?

The Quattro is rather an unusual device in that it is an inverter with an input and an output which sits inline with the main feed between the meter head and the consumer unit. It's output can sum both the mains input and its own synced DC solar/battery output and is not fused within the device...

New consumer unit required - does it mean none fire rated down lighters need replacing?

Do ensure that you have taken account of the extra sustained current that the inverter can supply over and above your supply cutout rating. Maybe they are replacing the CU in part because they know this, but a bog standard RCBO board will have a 100A main switch with no overcurrent protection...

New consumer unit required - does it mean none fire rated down lighters need replacing?

Can't see why the CU would need replacing, but you probably do need an extra fused switch on the Quattro output before the CU unless the whole CU is protected by a 100A MCB/RCDB terminating the tails. That unit can add 45A to the passthru (even more instantaneously around 2x the continuous...
