    Cable to garage

What @Fleeting is getting at is that you need to make sure your current Ze, plus your projected r1+r2 of the cable (which gives you a anticipated Zs value for the circuit) is within the limits of the Max allowable Zs of the 50A MCB you intend to use. The Maz Zs value being different if the type...

    Cable to garage

Distribution circuit, run in SWA (so mechanically protected). Why would you RCD protect it? You owuld run it to a Consumer Unit within the garage and that is where your RCD protection goes, as required for the local circuits.

    Cable to garage

Stick with SWA John, then there is no need for RCD protection at the supply end. You can still use the Armour as CPC on that size cable, but most tend to just install 3c now a days. Personally, I would run 3c and banjo the armour both sides too. Best of both worlds. Also, the swa can be direct...

    Growatt 'PVVoltLowWarn'

This is total guess work as I don't know the system, but maybe it gets time from server and if it thinks it's daytime and poor PV voltage??? No idea if those systems are 'that' smart but it is the only think I can think of. Does the inverter display a time?

    Recommended Installer

You will find that most PV installers are 'lash it in and on to the next one..' firms. EV is going the same way unfortunately.

    Solar in power cut

Your inverter will have anti-islanding built in to stop juice back feeding the grid (in case anyone is working on it). Many battery setups come with the ability of 'essential power' output. Can be anything from a single socket outlet on the battery charger / inverter to a hardwired terminal that...

    Solar System Review

Bare in mind that reading the voltage on the inverter like this is NOT Voc. 'in circuit' voltage which will always be lower that open cicuit voltage. Not sure about that particular inverter but some inverters you can turn the AC supply off and the inverter is still live and you will get a...

    Stubborn Installers

The 5kW inverter is unlikely to be G98 compliant so you can't just chuck it in. DNO G99 approval will need to be sought first. The highest you can install without prior conest is 3.68kW, hence their recommendation. Also, if the installer is MCS registered then they their 'paperwork' system...

    Newbie

As above, don't go electric heating. If anything, and this is only a suggestion as you are a software exgineer, install some suplementary electric heaters. Then setup home assistant (on a rasperry pi). Then figure out a way to get talk to your stuff and also read amount of energy currently...

RCD trips when oven reaches temperature or induction hob turned on (intermittent).

I have a little spicey version of an 'oven' issue to add. I didn't realise the lady was still having issues until yesterday when she collared me. Just before xmas her gas oven gave in and as they were hard to come by, she chose to go electric. Asked me to connect up for her. She didn't have a...

What is a good brand of socket/switches? Black nickel

Had a customer supply their own recently and they were Crabtree. Must admit, I rather liked them both as the installer and the finsh they gave.

Help with solar usage as recorded on new smart meter

Your FiT is paid on what you generate as recorded on your generation meter, regardless of whether you use it or not. You 'Export tariff' is paid on what you export. Now, if you don't have an export meter, the export is deemed to be 50% typically. Now that you have a smart meter, technically...

dimmable led lamp making a noise

I could be completely wrong, but most buzzing noises when dimming a light are down to the dimmer.

    Grid Fault message recurring

Also bear in mind that if your multimeter is not True RMS, the actual voltage could be higher still, especially given that the output from the inverter isn't likely to represent a true sine wave. If the sine wave is a little choppy, a non True RMS meter can read lower.

    Series or Parallel

With the figure given so far, tecnically you could do either. I assuming you do realise the inverter of 5kW is quite a bit over sized for you array (10 x 230w = 2.3kW)? Personally I would wire them all in series to get the voltage up as quick as in the morning and get the MPPT to kick in. If you...

    Grid Fault message recurring

just for perspective. 253v is 'too high'. Edit: I'm just trying to remember what most inverters are set to. It's been a while since I've done any PV. Think it's something like 262.2v for the stage 1 over volt trip. Be worth looking at what the inverter reads the voltage as on a good sunny day...

    Grid Fault message recurring

Are you sure it just says 'grid fault'? According to the manual, there isn't such a fault message. You have: Grid Lost Fault Grid Volt Fault Grid Freq Fault Wouldn't be the first time I have seen inverters crap out due the grid voltage being too high. If there is a load of PV systems installed...

How many trackers does the inverter (MPPT's) have? and what is the current ratings for the inverter?

    Solar System Review

@Cr4zySmurf Well, this post, along with your other one regarding the panels does not paint a good picture of the installers. Unfortunately, this happens all too often. Half the 'solar installers' are retrained window fitters, roofers, etc. Seen some very shoddy work over the recent years and I...
