Options after being made redundant (kind of)

This is very good info. Though it does worry me a little more. I currently can see a way to cover my bills/food/savings (hols, xmas, insuramce, etc) working mon-fri yet alone save up 3 months lol. Granted this is subbing type work.

Options after being made redundant (kind of)

Good day to one and all. WARNING: probably a bit of a boring story here. I'm in a bit of a pickle and trying to find a way out without hindering the rest of the family in much way. I have technically been made redundant on Tuesday gone with immediate effect. It's rather complicated affair but...

OK If no one else is going to say it ................

Hope everyone one is having a good day. Had the in-laws round for dinner, been hectic. Having 5 mins rest, a quick clear up then off to my mothers for round 2. Knackered already. Had my Christmas poo now though, which deffo relieved the Christmas dinner bloat. Merry Christmas everyone x

    'modern' domestic alarm

Texecom Premier Elite with a Smart Com is a step in the right direction and looks promising. I have one in my house and although it looks promising, it is new (the smart com bit). The app for smart phones works well and looks a whole lot better than their older apps. They currently have smart...

    Fixing Portable Generator

Thats what I originally thought @binky but it was O/C on the non-working unit and then I doubted myself. Not a master of motors or alternators. I started to question how a coil withing a coil generates electricity. Where the magnetic field comes from etc. As mentioned head was a little fried and...

    Fixing Portable Generator

Ok, new genny turned up today. Looks pretty much same except a few bits of metal are different shape etc. I whipped the cover off the alternator (after checking that it works fine first), removed connections to brushes and tested between the brushes (which are obviously connected to the slip...

    Fixing Portable Generator

Hi @Geoff1946 Yeah, that's the type of unit I'm talking of. Thinks it's  2.5kW. Got another one turning up soon (hopefully tomorrow) so will check that one out to answer my own question ;) Thought it would be an easy one for people with brains (not me), but posted here and 2 x facebook...

    Fixing Portable Generator

Can somebody just confirm that the rotor on a brushed portable genny should have continuity when tested at the slip rings? It's just a winding isn't it? Head is a little fried and no power coming out this bloody thing. It's testing open circuit so thinking it's knackered. With the avr...

New build Consumer Unit in kitchen cupboard

Thanks for the replies. It's not so much an after thought, more a case of they haven't got a clue what they are doing mixed in with the client making the builds very personal. They aren't for him, but looking at it from his own perspective. They do not want them in the w/c. not in the hall /...

New build Consumer Unit in kitchen cupboard

Good day to all. Is there anything against a Consumer Unit going in a wall unit in the kitchen on a new build. It falls within the Part M '1350mm to 1450mm to breakers' rule. One of the bods has queried a ruling about it being above a worktop. I can't remember seeing anything about that...

    Car Charge Points

Car Charging points: I've not really dealt with them to be honest but have some drawings for new builds and designer wants a 13a single socket outlet installing outside for car charging. From what I see this will allow for mode 1 or 2 charging. No problem. New build so supplies are TNC-S...

Emt bender app intended for new apprentices

Firstly, would I be right in assuming you are American? I really like the idea of the Ideal benders, and have often thought of getting one, but then I remember that here in the UK we also thread our metal conduits and so the Hilmor type benders are better suited (although more cumbersome) as...

relocating a plastic 17th edition fuseboard

Is there a requirement for a metal Cu in the first place? What is the location? Not all Cu's in domestic 'have' to be metal. Usually just if on exit route of under stairs. On the other hand, I hate using second hand stuff and if I would be going to the hastle of taking the board off, moving and...

Wall switch with no known function

Looks to me like a switch for Immersion Heater (Water Heater mentioned above). Do you still have a water tank? You see many of these where heating is converted to combi boiler and now the switch is no use. Just livens a cable up in the old tank cupboard and hopefully there is some sort of cover...

warmflow utility combi 70 HE diagnosis help needed

If the temp of the Return is close to the temp of the Flow, the boiler won't fire up. Could that have been the issue?
