    Smart Wifi switch

Connect your neutral to all the other neutrals, probably easiest to swap that 5 way wago for a 6 way and a neutral link from that to the switch N terminal. The brown that presently links to all 3 switches to your L terminal. The other 3 browns to L1, L2 and L3 respectively. Noting that one of...

    Changed bathroom pull switch

OP = Original Poster. I was too lazy to go back a page to remember your user name.

    Changed bathroom pull switch

Actually now we know the OP bought a dimmer pull switch, I see it has N and L in terminals and N and L out terminals. The OP has just connected L in and L out. I have not read the instructions, but I am willing to bet this switch won't work without N connected. Also if suspecting a cable has...

    Changed bathroom pull switch

When the bathroom light stopped working, did you check the other upstairs lights were still working? What made you think it was the bathroom light switch at fault? Are you SURE nothing has tripped in your consumer unit? Post a picture of that please? Random part substitution without proper...

    Todays DNO call out

Many years ago I tried to report a dangerous condition, and the DNO would not accept my issue and told me I must notify the energy supplier. I forget exactly what it was but it must have been a problem with the meter. I also forget which energy supplier it was, but they would not accept...

    **** heater installers....

I'll bet that is a brick wall and the new heater was too big and could not be bothered for the mess of moving it. Oh how I hate brick walls and oh how I love that most houses here are timber stud and plasterboard and so much easier to make alterations like that.

Looking for a 2 pole waterproof 50A DC plug and socket

Thanks I did not know about the waterproof boots. I have ordered some. 63A connectors would be way too big and clumsy.

Looking for a 2 pole waterproof 50A DC plug and socket

For the 12V connection on my outboard motor. Need an in line plug and socket, 2 pole 12V 50A able to take 10mm cable and must be waterproof. I was previously advised to use a pair of Anderson connectors, but they lasted just 1 year in the marine environment before the plastic cracked and the...

    D Day

Very moving day for me. My Father was a D day veteran, he survived obviously or I would not be here. To the best of my knowledge he landed a day or 2 after D day itself on Sword Beach as part of the Oxon & Bucks regiment, but by the end of July that had been disbanded and the men posted to...

    Electric test fail.

And failed to do any testing of the installation.

    Electric test fail.

I once found just that. A house with a shiny new CU but no labels. I had to do some alterations to a socket circuit, so I went through all the unlabelled mcb's one at a time, and none isolated my circuit. Further investigation revealed that each end of the ring was connected to a 32A MCB...

Will a new metal CU be mandatory or advisory

Yes whoever did the EICR should at least have updated the labels and ensured no missing blanks etc. this should not be a job left for the LL to do.

    Confusing Switch Terminals

And if in doubt, learn how to use your tester on ohms range to confirm what switch terminal joins the which in the different switch positions when you encounter an unfamilliar type of switch.

    Bi directional protection devices

I have seen even an old school no electronics RCD go up in smoke when the input was connected to the output terminals.

Electric Shock - Never should happen, or occupational hazard?

I have had the capacitor shock from the 13A plug pins on a humble washing machine where the incoming flex goes straight into an EMC filter and that had stored enough energy to make you jump. I wish people designing that stuff would incorporate a bleed reistor. With regards to fixed wiring my...

    Using Batteries

And I believe some inverters will allow some import. If they set the bar too close to 0 they run the risk of exporting some of your battery power which would be worse.
