    Tuya circuit breaker

The average domestic £2 million PL insurance might not go far if you burn down a shopping centre.

    Solar PV - Henley Block

I would be asking who installed that. If it was an MCS company (or claiming to be MCS) that is where I would start. But everything about that install is rough as, not just the solar PV connection. You have to feel sorry for the poor house owner that paid for that, and want to go after the...

    Tuya circuit breaker

Whatever you do, the earths MUST be joined together. It is not a circuit breaker as normally described but some form of remote switch. The obvious thing is to read the (expletive deleted) manual as the old saying goes. The manual should tell you what you are supposed to do with the current...

    landline number without the landline

We have done that with our old landline, that is now provided as a VOIP service via our broadband supplier. Ask if VM if they offer that. But at £5 per month for our VOIP service and we probably only receive 1 call a week, and never use it to make calls (apart from 0800) I am thinking we might...

Am I expected to be competant in Extractor fan installs as a bs7671 electrician?

Most SDS drills have a clutch. I discovered mine has one when a long drill bit (not a core) jammed and I thought it had stripped the gearbox, but it was just the clutch slipping so the drill was not wrenched out of my hand.

Am I expected to be competant in Extractor fan installs as a bs7671 electrician?

It is up to you. Personally I only do the electrics. Last one I did recently I put the fan in the ceiling, wired it, and left the outlet hose ready for the roofer to come, fit a vent tile and attach it. This was agreed with the home owner before i started the job. If the owner had not agreed...

    Ground source heat pump issue

Regardless of what the on screen temperature readings give, you surely know which pipe is flow and which is return? If so which one is the hot one just by feel?

    Double light switch replacement

Well done for taking the picture BEFORE you took the old switch off. As above exactly as it was except one switch has it's terminals the other way up. Some switches are made like that. Also note that the blues and yellows are not interchangable. So the blue and yellow from one cable go into...

    Hi, what adpator ?

It's rated power supply is 5V DC 6 watts. It might well come with a 120V ac to 5V dc power supply but that would be useless to you, so throw that away and use it with a 240V input power supply.

    Hi, what adpator ?

Post your question, it will be specific to your situation.

Additional PV Panels on certain time of the day in the string

Which is a GOOD demonstration of why you should turn the ac output off first, so the inverter is not drawing any power from the panels, before you open the dc isolator.

    Heavy grid loading today

I wonder if people on variable tarrifs are being charged more today?

Better not plug your EV in to charge just now.

    RFI From Inverter

I have 2 inverters and a ham radio licence. The big Sunny boy inverter is fine. It's the little 600W cheap Chinese one that is noisy. I tried an RFI filter on the mains, that just tripped the RCD, obviously not right for the job, so if I want to use my radios I switch off the little Chinese...

Best Practice Guide No 4 Issue 7

Yes of course they have, but updates to regs are not retrospective and this guidance note makes that clear. If you want to deviate from the guidance note and give it a C2 even if they are not used for outside equipment, then feel free. I prefer to let the guidance note guide me.

    Metal Framed house rewire.

My biggest concern at that age is the presence of asbestos if you have to drill anything. I have declined rewires before because of that concern.

Best Practice Guide No 4 Issue 7

But this edition of the guide says 3036 with no RCD is C3. there may be other issues with an old instalation which makes it a C2 but not just being a 3036 with no RCD. If you say it is a C2 just for being a 3036 with no RCD then you are just the same as those saying a plastic CU is C2 and...

Best Practice Guide No 4 Issue 7

Nobody is suggesting doing a new 3036 install. Just discussing that unless you find a specific fault, there is no reason according to this guide, to fail an install just because it has 3036 fuses and no rcd.

Best Practice Guide No 4 Issue 7

So a 3036 board install as long as it does not have any outdoor sockets and all in good order would only be a C3, so satisfactory.
