    3D Printer Enclosure

Too knackered to play with CAD tonight plus can't find my digital Vernier! Printing this little piece of the adapter I've drawn so far, now, to see how it fits in the hot air gun...it might not! What I could do with finding is a source of similar female connectors like on this old Makita...

    3D Printer Enclosure

@Phoenix, I'll get back on this maybe this evening for a bit. Nearly ready to print a test section to fit into the Parkside hot air gun. It's a little more complicated where you fit to the tool as you need "female" connectors to go onto the tools "blades". This was successful, Makita battery to...

    Identify Roof Rail Extrusion

@binky, evening. Would you by any chance recognise this solar PV roof rail extrusion? Cheers.

I've got those resistors and that transistor. So this needs to be built into the adaptor?

    Fuse Box Replacement

What was the stately home (?) fire where vermin made a nest in a wall mounted metal cu in the basement? A knockout hadn't been blanked allowing them access. The fire went up thr metal conduit and burnt the place down. Sure there was a post on here... Aka: A plastic cu might have fallen to...

Fingers crossed you get a rat problem! Perhaps your boy could encourage his workers to leave their sandwich crusts lying around and an inch gap under the shutters at night? 😂

That'll be handy when a pigeon flies in and gets stuck.

    Fuse Box Replacement

I reckon you'd argue black is white tbh. If there's a fire you've got your heat & oxygen. More plastic, unless fire retardant is the fuel.

    Fuse Box Replacement

Of course the material is important. Plus you don't add "fuel to a fire". If you knowingly add a bunch of potentially flammable glands to something, then that could have consequences. You're only making it better in terms of the IP rating. If it all went t!ts up and it could be argued you used...

    Fuse Box Replacement

Presumably Wiska Sprint glands specifically for twin and earth cable would do the job a treat. Nickel plated brass ones would be belt and braces but would plastic suffice on the basis the t&e is unlikely to be lsf?

Sub-second power outages only on some circuits

The looser a screw at a connection the higher the resistance to current flowing through it. It gets hot, potentially real hot. A thermal image survey might show this hot spot(s). I know there's often resistance (no pun intended) from tenants to shutting down power for testing purposes due to...

Sub-second power outages only on some circuits

Is it always the same circuits go out? It could be an issue in an HV or LV switch room on a particular phase. You really don't want to be messing in there. Is there not a facilities maintenance team on site who investigate/deal with this?  Has the building ever had a periodic inspection? Often...

Sub-second power outages only on some circuits

Is there anything else in the building scheduled to happen at those times of the month, generator test etc?

Sub-second power outages only on some circuits

All joking aside I've known mechanical fixings loosen over time due the building being sited over a Tube line.  Electrical connections get stressed under load so go "hot & cold". This leads to cycles of expansion & contraction. Don't forget screw terminals aren't considered maintenance...

Sub-second power outages only on some circuits

Might be worth having a look with a heat camera in the distribution boards for any hot spots / loose connections. That and periodically checking everything is in fact tight! Do on a shutdown etc.

    Air Rifles

@kerching, is it for an air rifle?

    Air Rifles

Maybe, the bent wood is still an issue. I'd love to have the money to be fitted for, then have a custom gun stock made just for me. I imagine they must use a contraption like a target rifle with everything adjustable and tweaked until it fits you just right. Tbh even the 2, ply stock blanks...

The cylinder is 32mm dia. Sits in here with about 4mm either side, so 32+ nom.8 is 40mm and the thickness of the walnut is 41mm.  The stock widens to 46mm.

    Air Rifles

Being the big chap that I am my stock has never really fit me properly. I always hankered after a custom made walnut, thumbhole stock. About 30 years ago I bought a piece of walnut locally. Been sat in a damp stable ever since. I don't rush things... (It was intended for a crossbow stock that...
