    Robbing B@st**ds

Had to post this as I needed to vent some frustration. Had a customer call me today their power went off yesterday evening and they had "an electrician" round to sort the problem, but he had left them with some sockets not working. Called round found 3 sockets disconnected with low IR...

    Intermittent Circuit Breaker Tripping

Use of insulated ducting can also help with the moisture in the duct issue.

Stupid designs to solve a non-existent problem??

He didn't steal them they were on loan but obviously the BBC ended his contract before he could return them. And that's is his defence your honour !!!!! 😅😅😅

    Sad News

The customer has agreed to have the socket replaced with a 13a spur feeding a 16a socket. I'm hoping the spur unit will cope better than a plug top as the next step will be to modify the weatherproof spur to a 20a DP switch. There isn't an easy answer to regulating the industry but making it a...

Totally true. As long as B&Q will sell Electrical parts anyone will fit them.

    Quick question.

True but manufacturers should take this into account. Its shouldn't be up to us to have to argue with a customer who has the manufacturer backing them up when they say "sure a 13a sockets fine" I prefer installing the larger fixed units as they need a 32a plug end of. So much easier. Even with...

    Quick question.

True. Again something manufacturers don't take into account as our voltage is 230 here even though I very rarely see it that low. Around here it's 238 - 249 mostly.

    Quick question.

That's my plan. It's just annoying when you know it won't work but you follow the manufacturers guidance and then it bites you !

    Quick question.

Has anyone else had issues with one of these plug in hot tub units ? Customer bought one and I installed an outdoor 13a socket for it. When I arrived the plug on the hot tub was a 16a, but all the instructions and the manufacturers website confirmed that this was a 13a unit. Rang the...

Stupid designs to solve a non-existent problem??

My first Electrical experience as a young boy was what happens if you put your finger in the lampholder when there's no lamp in it !!!! I was 9 I think. No mcbs or rcds in them days. The answer if anyones interested is your thrown across the bedroom and your fingernail explodes. Maybe that's...

    Sad News

It's sad news about the young boy in Blackpool who was electrocuted in the Hotel reception area. My thoughts go out to the family at this time. Having worked in the Blackpool area ( not at this hotel ) I am not surprised that something like this has happened. A majority of Blackpool based...

    ROLEC caravan hook up issues

Loose connection, probably never been opened and checked for years. Lucky escape that he was there at the time. It could have spread quickly. But I do like the built in sprinkler system !!!!!!

Advice please re New consumer unit and water pipe bond

There is the option to connect it to a position not near the intake however every joint would have to be checked to ensure no plastic fittings have been installed. Check the incoming water pipe as it may have been replaced with plastic when the building was converted. If it is plastic then a...

Find practice exams online. Keep doing them. Some sites are free. Write all formulas and as many notes as you need in the back of your regs book. Tab your regs book with markers if you struggle to remember what's where.

    Finding work

I find that it's a balancing act. I tend not to answer the phone during the day if I'm working as I'm being paid to work not answer the phone. As its one of my pet hates when you employ a trade and they spend so much time on the phone rather than working. My answer phone message states I'm...

    Diversity

I think it's a reaction to the government's let's go all electric idea, and the realisation that it's gonna cause massive issues. Plus it's a European EN thing as well.
