    Just saying hello.

One thing I will say about the Mods on here is they are are very fair, but dont put up with any nonsense. Being a mod is a thankless task as you cant please everyone, but this forum does seem to work and everyone has respect for others opinions, even if we dont agree with them. The occasional...

Catch 22 Confused, Need a straight answer. NAPIT Requirements for Self Employed / Sole Trader

I have the figure of 30 hours in my head for some reason. It sounds alot, but as others have said visiting this forum, reading PE magazine, Internet research into a subject can all count. I don't think 30hrs is unreasonable and I've attended quite a few online cpd sessions with the TV on as...

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

Dead testing is a bit of an issue due to certain units being used during the day, but I totally get your point @SPECIAL LOCATION The smaller single phase boards are fed via 4mm 3core swa. The zs on those are around double what they should be. Some have rcd as main switch, some don't. Looking...

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

It's no longer a farm it's separate hand built sheds for storage, so no livestock or anything like that to worry about. I'm off tomorrow as the van is in for its mot a d service so am going to plunge into the regs book then.

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

Yes but old swa. Most using swa as the earth, which is fine but from mains to furthest board is probably 50m going via 3 sub boards. All in 16mm 4core swa. I'm amazed that the volt drop isn't worse, but it's only really running lights in the units at that end of the yard. Just to add to the...

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

I'd like to get Zs values to comply. As the swa are not going to be rcd protected they have to get to the correct values at the sub boards. From there there may be rcbos on final circuits or mcbs if going to next board. That's why I'm not sure about just adding the rods or making the entire...

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

That's a separate issue. They have used 30ma rcds as main switches on the sub boards so if a fault occurs anywhere the sub board goes off along with the local one. I'm putting new sub boards in with just main switches as all cables to boards are swa. I'd just change the switches, but obsolete...

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

Morning Peeps. Inherited a storage unit site and they want the electrics looking at as an rcd keeps tripping and taking half the site out. They have multiple boards fed via swa cable. The zs on some of the boards is very poor especially on the long runs. There's not much power being drawn...

Not sure how youd eicr this installation

Whos job is it to mount an electric shower

If you mount the shower it's in the correct place for your cable. It's upto the plumber to make the water fit then. I usually just run the cable to the same place as the pipe and then see who wants to do what. I've got to take the cover off to test so always check the connections at that point.

    Todays DNO call out

The call handlers do seem to have got better training now a day's. I always identify myself as a NAPIT registered electrician which I think helps to cut out any potential "you don't know what your talking about' scenarios. I do agree that sometimes if you get a "script reader" it can be...

    Todays DNO call out

I think some guys think they will possibly get in trouble for pulling fuse or something. I've found that they are always helpful and do appreciate that we have picked up on issues.

    Todays DNO call out

No it's a single fuse. That shiny silver showing between the porcelain insulator is incoming live. But your right I'd definitely say it needs updating

    Todays DNO call out

Done a Cu change. No problems but then while doing final checks came across the exposed live cable at the cut out. Would you have reported it ? Or am I being picky ? You cant get a finger in there, but a screwdriver and definitely a large part of my test probe. DNO coming out for a safety...
