Weird cables - Swapping Mains Fire Smoke Alarm

Aico all the way. Their products are good and their customer service is great. Only ever had 1 issue and that was a faulty base unit. Swapped quickly and left working perfectly. I won't say never but I have not yet been called back to an Aico alarm problem.

Putting up business signs on fences, lamposts, trees etc........

Flyers / postcards into the houses next to where you have worked. That worked for me when I was starting out. Follow some basic advert rules. Electrician in bold print not your name. Don't over complicate it. Offer a discount with the flyer. People love a saving. Keep it up. You'll succeed.

How Do You put Your Materials Through Company

So your invoicing your customers 2 invoices. One for materials and one for labour ? Otherwise your system doesn't work as your solar company would have to sell to your electrical company and include vat. Which means your turnover is still the same. Unless you only do solar work on the solar...

How Do You put Your Materials Through Company

The vat bill will only apply from the point he went over the 85k. The procedure is still the same as being a sole trader it's just the limited company buying the materials. The difference is VAT is now shown on invoices and charged on everything. Example Materials cost £100 plus vat = £120...

    Going Back To work

I know what you mean John as I used to work in a school too. And agree with what your saying but on here these issues get blown up and heated debate and arguments spoil the friendly atmosphere.

Strange G10 downlight fitting - stuck

If they have halogen lamps in try turning them on for 5 mins before trying to open them. But wear gloves as they will be very hot but it may loosen them off a little.

Adding a shower mcb to CU

Very true, but looking at the bigger picture your not going to find a property now that has only resistive loads. Led lamps, microwaves, washing machines in fact most appliances will generate dc leakage so it's more than likely a new rcd would be required.

Advice on setting up solar, to power a router and wi-fi

What is he looking to do with this ? Is it just a WiFi extension from the house to extend the range ? If its just that you can get external WiFi antennas with over 1km line of sight range.

Power smart device from light switch in bathroom

As long as there is a live and neutral at the switch. If you want it to turn on and off with the light come off the terminal marked L1 for the live. If you want it powered on all the time come off the terminal marked com.

    Going Back To work

I doubt you would get DBS clearance to discuss some of the content on your course with those of a sensitive age. Whilst I fully support your idea I doubt this woke generation would allow it. 🤣🤣🤣

Two ring mains in a room

There was always a large gap between 20a and 32a hence why 25a fills this gap and still complies with 2.5 cable rating under the correct installation method. In the majority of older installs clipped direct is the method for socket circuits. And the 25a allows for failed rings to be converted...

Two ring mains in a room

I was thinking that. I qualified under 15th edition and it was 27a I was always taught.

Two ring mains in a room

Mcb manufacturers have seen this trend as well hence more making 25a mcb for 2.5 radials.

    Underground fault - lost neutral

Could be a loose neutral. Had it on an industrial premises and had 300+ volts on single phase to earth. Cooked a few lights and the fire alarm panel.

New electric oven - issue with fuse rating/wiring

Agree with Andy. A new cable is the best option, but nothing wrong with using 2x6mm in parallel on a single 45a / 50a breaker.
