How should I gland this swa?

If its not used as an earth then its just extraneous metal work, so as Binky said earth it at the board. Doesn't get over the non double insulated cables though, but might make it easier to deal with that.

Only just starting to come in. Was at the last Napit event. Its to avoid circuits that are high use high current (ev) overheating theirs and neighbouring mcbs/rcbos. As ev chargers are high load over a long period. Hence why Lewden now have a 39 way board

Yep. It's like the "I've replaced a light but don't know where the wires now go, or I joined all the reds and all the blacks together and it went bang" type jobs. 5 mins with a test lamp and it's swipe your card here time.

Yes I get that but I still get call out to "I've added a light" and they have cut a 3 core and used brown and black as live and neutral so it's either bang or my new light doesn't work ! But hey brown is the colour of soil so that's the earth. Black is negative on a battery so that's neutral so...

I would definitely put in a complaint formally to Napit and request that you are reassessed for free as that is totally ridiculous. It's sounding like the olden days of the NICEIC and their own rules. I know someone who was with NIC who failed their assessment because they had used the black...

Not only that we now have to space rcbos or equivalent out so long use ones are not together. So no more nicely arranged boards going from large to small unless you put spacers inbetween. It's getting crazy 🤪

If you ever get to look at the main cable coming in to a property it normally looks like around 10mm/16mm for a domestic property, yet its got a 100a fuse on it. Also don't forget the dno fuse is there to protect their network not the property ! With regard to maximum demand and such I put...

The main switch is rated at 100a. The dno fuse is 100a. You cannot then "in theory" draw more than 100a. While we all know this is not exactly true there are plenty of installations like the one you described. This is going to become more and more of an issue as I find I'm putting in more...

    Domestic lighting circuit protection

Had a look at codebreakers and the only reason it's a C2 is for sockets used for outside equipment. The only other reason no rcd is a c2 which I disagree with is cables buried in walls at less than 50mm depth. For older properties that last one is too harsh and it was safe at the time of...

    Earth Bonding

More and more of these plastic joints being used. At one point plumber's were always told to install a flylead across them but you very rarely see it. I have started on old installation adding a additional 10mm bond to the water and gas at the boiler then cross bonding all the pipes. Belt and...

    Domestic lighting circuit protection

Loads of properties out there with no rcd protection on all circuits let alone the lighting alone. C3 all the way for an EICR. I always put in the comment box the following.... "Circuit does not comply to current BS7671 18th edition wiring regulations, however these are not applied...

Electric storage heaters usage when switched off

Your off peak meter activates and powers everything in your property for those hours it's active. Therefore there will be some usage. Even with the storage heaters off.

Building Control Electrical Work Certification (Wales)

On an EIC form it's 3 separate boxes. Designed so 3 people can fill the form in. The designer, who may never actually visit the job itself. The installer, who, surprise surprise installs the job. The inspection and test person, usually in larger companies a designated person holding an...

Building Control Electrical Work Certification (Wales)

Or have an EICR carried out which when the original electrician has done a runner is an option I have offered and has been accepted by building control. But it's usually a more in depth EICR as I took every accessory off and checked every terminal.

Nothing wrong with horizontal runs as long as they are within the safe zone which in your picture it is.

    £7,000 standing charges!

I would still be tempted to install meters to each flat just to monitor usage and maybe allow for a change in the future. Maybe putting separate supplies for each unit would have been better. Means user pay for what they use. I've had situations where bills included ment Tennant left heating...

    Hello Everyone!

Welcome to our little corner. I&T comes more with experience than anything else as no one can explain every fault to you. Follow the simple guidelines. If it can kill you if you touch it now its a C1. If it could kill you if something else happened first it's a C2. If it was safe when it was...
