    Light fitting wires

What type of light is it? A lot of the time it doesn’t matter, sometimes it does though. Is it a new light fitting as the ends look a bit rough and with some rough solder on them.

    Static shock from flooring?

I got static shocks when I first put down my laminate floor, stopped after about a month, I presumed it was because dust built up in the gaps and naturally discharged any built up charge.

    3ph motor tripping

Tong test (Clamp on amp meter) on the 3 phases one at a time going to the motor, they should be equal and not above the name plate rated current of the motor. If it is below the rated current of the motor and tripping the overloads then the overloads need looking at. If it is drawing more than...

    CT clamp installation safety question

No danger of getting a shock, perfectly safe as the clip round the outside of the cable which includes the insulation

Installed ferrite cores onto the live and neutral cables making a buzzing noise?

I have never seen ferrites on meter tails before, did you see the croc clip earth on the faraday cage as well, I smell a conspiracy theory going on here😀. Nice bit of bending work on the faraday cage though.

    Favourite job?

I always hated doing earth rods as I was always paranoid about hitting a gas pipe, water pipe or anything else that wouldn’t act favourable to getting an earth rod romped into it. However well done.

    Summer house wiring

Different sparks prefer different methods, and most will be correct if the right kit is used and properly installed, I personally prefer it to be mounted so that it is inspectable and so easily modified in the future.

If I change my 15 year old inverter..........

I couldn’t quite remember if it was 20 or 25 years, I know I was early into getting them, think I was the first in the area and had a get a building warrant and planning permission from the council (Scotland), none of my mates did 6 months later.

    Help! My inverter has died.

And every day it is dead is costing you money in lost FIT earnings, I would guess it is not cost effective to be mucking about while we are in the last throws of semi decent daylight for the year, I would be wanting it up and running sooner rather than later.

    Help! My inverter has died.

I had a Sunnyboy inverter that died, think it was something like £850 to buy one from the solar wholesaler, he said that no one ever buys one they all buy Solis at £400 both come with exactly the same warranty so why pay double, I couldn’t argue with that logic, I bought and fitted the Solis...

"Nuisance" trip domestic oven / hob circuit

I wouldn’t normally recommend the random changing of parts without proving by testing but oven elements is one of those exceptions to the the rules as they can be a bit random with their tripping. Providing it is not exceptionally expensive and they aren’t normally I would change just to...

    Aircon pipes spanner size

I think an important point here is experience and feel, if you have these then there is a good chance you will get the torque in the right ball park, get a 20 stone gorilla of a fitter tightening down a 4BA brass nut and bolt then be ready to replace it as it has stripped, on the the other get...
