Socket converters - good or bad?

There are without doubt some reasonable quality converter sockets. But there are also a fair share of cheap imports that have very dubious build quality and long term reliability considerations. The problem is that it can be difficult to distinguish the build quality of any product you buy...

    C2 coding

If you consider this problem to be equivalent to a PIR C2 code, I am not convinced there would be any requirement to disconnect the circuit. A C1 immediate danger would be a different consideration, but a C2 is only potentially dangerous. Even though urgent remedial attention is recommended for...

    Alarm on Renault trafic

The fuse box location for most cars is shown in the user manual. Or if you don't have the manual, Google & YouTube are often a good help with finding fuse box locations. Doc H.

2 light switches for one light - how to change to 1

You are incorrect, the Brown and both of the Blues wires are all Live conductors, this is how two-way switches have to be wired for them to work. Assuming they are wired correctly, there is no need to remove the standard switch. All you have to do is only use the dimmer. And as has been...

Wiring a coffee shop on a bicycle !

Never really understood the concept that sockets must always be wired as rings? Are some electricians scared of radials? Doc H.

    Your thoughts on EICR

That may be because EICR’s do not have any scores. Rather just a Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory for continued use evaluation, based on various observations. Doc H

Very odd goings on. Can you solve it?

https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg231.pdf Any person thinking the correct way to test an electrical installation, alteration or addition by just switching the power on, is about as sensible as checking if you can walk across a road blindfolded, with earplugs in. Pedantic NO. Sensible YES.  The...

Was I being unreasonable? EICR Clarifications

I will wish you well with your efforts to try and get a resolution via the NICEIC complaints procedure. But I suspect you may find this harder than trying to get toothpaste back in a tube. Unless it is a significant safety issue, endangering the users of an installation, or a miss-use of logo...

Was I being unreasonable? EICR Clarifications

The fundamental problem you, (or anyone else), will have if trying to complain to NICEIC, (and possibly other CPS providers), is the rule that they generally don't get involved with any contractual disputes. If there is a miss-use of logo, claiming to be a member when they are not, then this is...

Need help with new consumer unit

I am not convinced that the OP would actually fully grasp the meaning of these terms. You appear to miss the point that this forum is not just a discussion board for persons with formal training, experience or qualifications. And possibly you are unable to understand or discuss anything other...

Need help with new consumer unit

Welcome to the forum, I will add that your current arrangement only provides overload protection. Any upgrade will need to also provide shock protection. I would very strongly recommend individual RCBO's per circuit, not one or two RCD's protecting multiple circuits. Doc H.

Was I being unreasonable? EICR Clarifications

To undertake a periodic inspection and issue an EICR, the person undertaking the inspection should be competent and knowledgeable of all aspects of BS7671 that relate to the type of installation being inspected. So as Fleeting suggests the inspector should not need a best practice guide if they...

Running 6mm twin & earth cable.

Strictly speaking BS761 has never had any blanket cover, as 120.3 (or its earlier incarnations),  allows for deviations/departures when the level of safety is not compromised. Obviously the person choosing to adopt any deviation would need to have sufficient backing if their deviation did go...

    EICR offer on fleabay

Those forms do not have any NICEIC logos on them. Historically NICEIC have sold un-logoed "Green" forms that copy the model forms of BS7671 for many years. They are available to purchase by anyone, just as anyone has the right to produce their own forms based on the guidance of BS7671. The...
