    Per item PAT test charge?

Personally I find that I can make more PAT Testing with a price per asset rather than hourly rate. That said I have a downloadable tester so can get a reasonable number of assets done quite quickly. I do set a minimum charge though as otherwise someone wanting 5 or 10 assets tested would never pay.

    EICR Unsatisfactory - need advice

Because that was how the installation was when you inspected it. I'm certainly not going to wait all day on the DNO for free to issue a satisfactory report. They can put it in writing to the customer that the apparent deficiency has been surveyed and has now been left in a safe condition or...

    EICR Unsatisfactory - need advice

Why wouldn't you if it renders the electrical installation unsafe? It's not really relevant whose duty it is to rectify it - if the installation is unsafe then it is unsafe and the client must be informed of that.

    EICR Unsatisfactory - need advice

I agree that there's a certain contradiction there but it's certainly not the fault of the Electrician correctly coding it as he sees fit. He did what he had to do.

    EICR Unsatisfactory - need advice

Why should it be amended to "Satisfactory"? It's not a certificate but a report - it shouldn't be amended but simply a statement of the facts as they presented themselves at the time of the inspection. I would not amend an EICR to read "satisfactory" later but would merely certify whatever...

    EICR Unsatisfactory - need advice

I don't agree. N/A is correct for a single phase supply.

    EICR Unsatisfactory - need advice

Whether it complied at the time of installation is immaterial as to whether it is safe or unsafe. For example, if in an escape route there were no non-combustible supports for the wiring system (assuming that it wasn't required when installed - which will be a matter of opinion referencing other...

    Rcbo on a tt system

Yes it is. I thought I made that clear when I stated that there is no Regulation requiring all pole disconnection in a fault. Apologies if that wasn't clear.

    Rcbo on a tt system

There isn't one. Also, you stated that only line conductors (as opposed to live conductors) need to be isolated in a TN installation. However this is not the case for an installation not under supervision by skilled or instructed persons (or, more accurately, whatever the new term is for these...

    Electrifix 3m galv conduit mis-print?

Well certainly anywhere here you would always be presented with 3.75m lengths if you asked for a length. Unless you specifically asked for a 3m length you wouldn't get it, and even then probably a lot of places wouldn't get you it or might even claim it doesn't exist. It's the very reason I had...

    Electrifix 3m galv conduit mis-print?

3m is definitely available in some places. However the default length for galvanised conduit is 3.75 metres and that is what any wholesaler will supply in my experience (unless you specifically ordered 3m - and I'm not sure how many would get it for you).

    Bespoke installs

    Correct.

    Bespoke installs

There are, of course, but they have been through proper training and become rough all on their own. My compatriot is correct though in stating that there is no (nor has there ever been any) fasttrack into the industry here.

    Bespoke installs

It has to be said that one good thing about the training here is, as you say, that a full Apprenticeship is required to enter the industry. (Or I suppose an Adult Traineeship although I don't think that's very usual.) Without this proper training a prospective contractor could not join RECI for...

    Bespoke installs

As I say, the use of flanged couplers remains universal practice in this part of the world.

    Bespoke installs

    Quite possibly.

    Bespoke installs

Flanged couplers are used universally here (although not normally with serrated washers additionally).

    EICR today

It seems to be a common belief in fairness. When you explain you will need a few hours some people seem dumbfounded by this! Probably why they expect it to cost about £50! Have you just added r1 to r2 to give you the (R1+R2), or is this a spur? Because otherwise it should be around about 0.16 Ohms.

Adding a piece on during a rewire

I have to say I assumed that we were talking of nothing like that height. If there was around 150mm clearance (or perhaps 100mm at a push) then it's likely not to damage the plug/flex. But your typical skirting board would definitely fall foul of that. So apologies if others were referring to...

Adding a piece on during a rewire

Indeed, and this surely precludes the mounting of them on skirting boards!
