Adding Sockets to Ring Existing Ring main

Ensure the cables running under the hob are far enough down to protect them from the heat, should have a shelf with reflective foil on it between the hob and any drawer or cupboard under? Locked to prevent being resurrected (again)

    Need more sockets

I did exactly that in my wife's office, good thing about it is placing the multi gang extension just under the desk height keeps all the cables off the floor and a few tie wraps completes the tidy up.

    Surge protection

No electronic appliances plugged in, I habitually unplug when a storm hits or I leave the premises for an extended period, all the white goods stay plugged in and they all survive with or without the Surge protector. Additionally due to Covid the place was unoccupied for nearly two years...

    Is this reasonable?

An hour may be realistic at the work site, but is it realistic if you take into account getting tools out of the van transporting them to the work area and packing away everything as well? Oh and one would hope at least one cup of tea. 🤣

    Surge protection

I do remember seeing a u-tube vid of someone taking one apart and coming to the same conclusion, some of the cheaper ones he took apart left a lot to be desired in the safety aspect of how they worked, but Governments being what they are they will soon become legislation, driven by industry and...

    Surge protection

The Dordogne area of France is the lightning capitol of Europe, so I have some experience of Surge Protectors, most I have come across blink out on the first hit and have to be replaced, very expensive on three phase supplied properties, the latest versions seem to be able to take three of four...

    Surge protection

I read that as the RA is not required for "single dwelling units where the total value of the installation and equipment therein does not justify such protection" you do not need to do a RA or install a SP in a domestic building if you are willing to take the risk.

    Rcd tripping

    Thanks you Miss Piggy.

    Rcd tripping

I have a three phase supply in my workshop and had to put a D curve MCB to stop the one phase socket outlets from tripping, this is in France so may be a different designation here in the UK, look for a motor rated MCB: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/WYNHXC16.html French MCB's are dual...

    Rcd tripping

Is it fitted with an induction motor, the start up loads on some of these is sufficient to trip a normal RCD/MCB you may need to change one or both for a motor tolerant one i.e. a B curve to a Motor rated C curve.

Numpty (me) damaged 2.5 TE cable in plastered wall

If you are able to pull down from above and up from below, why can't you pull in a new length of cable and avoid a join?

Are RCBO's the way to go?

The advent of cavity walls was to stop the outside skin of brickwork transferring damp to the inside skin, not for the convenience of electricians to run cables in, anything in the cavity could act as a path for water too the inside warm skin and promote mould growth, IMO extremely bad practice...

    What's your go-to downlight?

Anything that has a clip to allow the lowering of the GU10 lamp and not having to fish around inside the lamp holder to line up the lamp with the bayonet fitting. 🤯

EICR Question - Consumer Unit and Downlighters

Those MCB's don't look tight enough together if they where a full blank may fit, alternatively fitting an appropriate second RCD may be a good idea in place of the blanks.

Running cables under glued down chipboard

If you can access both sides why not push a rigid plastic conduit through over the cable and clip that off the ground save putting tension on the cable?

EICR Question - Consumer Unit and Downlighters

Not sure of the regulations in the UK, but non fire rated downlighters in a ceiling with timber floor joists below a room capable of occupation would in my estimation be foolish to say the least, mandatory to be fire rated in the Europe.

Outdoor sockets and plugs that are too big

The OP's problem is using one like that with a large plug i.e. DC convertor type and trying to close the lid to maintain the waterproofing.

Interconnected smoke detector pairing (make: ANKA)

France, Germany and the Netherlands have entered fire alarm requirements into their statute already enforced for all properties, the EU are consulting on this at the moment to enforce it into all properties, not just rentals.

Sorry camera broke and the battery has run out. 😎 "Sluts Hole" is at the back of Mount Ephram and "Prats Bottom" is near Brands Hatch.

@ProDave Love your Avatar, I have a similar photo of "Sluts Hole" and "Prats Bottom" both in Kent.
