    EV charger installers

Fires and thermal damage are going to become a very real and very common problem. I don't doubt there already are and will be a great number of very dodgy setups charging cars.  It's rare I do end to end on a ring final circuit and find it is still a ring. Spurs off spurs, loose connections...

    EV charger installers

Saw this the last night,  The problem is generally joe public have zero idea of power, at least this chap had the sense to ask and the advice given was to get a professional in. They see a socket and have a matching plug and connecting the two will make electricity come out and do...

    EV charger installers

I've heard about Renaults problems with the earth and the cars refusing to charge, unless they have a good earth. Surely in this case a charge point with an O-PEN device is the solution. One mans solution was to regularly pour a bucket of water over his earth rod to get the car charging.  It's...

    infra red heater

I've got an old Dimplex QXD 3kw wall mounted IR heater that is very good so long as you don't mind being bathed in a red light. If you go for anything that heats the air I'd have some sort of recirculation to send it back down, even if it's just a fan in the apex pushing the hot air back down.

    Makes my blood boil

Similarly to emergency lighting and fire alarms, smokes are out of scope as far as I'm concerned as they fall under a different british standard. If they're fitted the circuit gets inspected and tested for compliance with 7671, that's where it ends, their type/location/number of them or whatever...

Lights to upgrade - advise gratefully received

That brings back memories, the old eyeball downlights. Common failure point and as you say a gentle pull with the long nose pliers to get them working again. Replaced a fair few over the years for standard downlights using those conversion plates they used to do for them.

    Moving Consumer unit location

sold at CPC, CEF, RS and probably your local wholesalers. Other brands are available and they're available with screw and push fit connections.

Second vote for an adaptable box with din rail connections. I think Wago do some din rail mountable push fit connections.

    Certsure tightens it's grip further?

I hadn't seen that one. My big gripe is that the gov.uk site links to the one owned by Certsure, who've now removed NAPIT members from its listings on there, further strengthening Certsure's grip on the industry. If it's a site the government is linking to for people to find registered...

    Certsure tightens it's grip further?

It's been mentioned on here the other day that certsure are ending the elecsa brand and moving members over to the NICEIC brand. I saw on another group that the electrical competent person scheme has removed NAPIT members from the listing pages, the post about it in the group was quickly...

    Replace MCB with RCBO

I always find people's attitudes to electricity interesting. In most cases they wouldn't cut their own hair as they don't have the skill and the worst that can happen there is that you walk down the street looking like a numpty or have to put on a hat, yet something that can kill you, seriously...

    Any Elecsa Members on here?

They're the cheapest by quite a way, bit worrying that they stop site visits after 3 years, but lets be honest whatever scheme you're with you pays your money you gets your membership pretty much regardless.

    Any Elecsa Members on here?

I saw this today from another source that also mentioned another body called Blueflame but not sure who they are/owned by.

    Replace MCB with RCBO

I believe crabtree and wylex are of the same parent group, Electrium, so they may be approved for use together, I'm not sure, it's not something I've looked into. I know wylex are a nightmare just within their own brand for fitting to their own different types of busbars.

    Replace MCB with RCBO

BS7671 states that manufacturers instructions should be followed. Manufacturers type test their kit. If you contacted a manufacturer they would not approve you to fit other manufacturers kit in with theirs. You are essentially taking on and approving that design yourself which is where the...

    Replace MCB with RCBO

You're modifying the consumer unit beyond the manufacturer's design by using RCBOs from a different manufacturer and fitting RCBOs into a consumer unit that was designed as  split load RCD board which contravenes regulations. It wouldn't be wise to take it on yourself as I've had faulty RCBOs...

    Fraudulent Certificate

I'm guessing because you've tried to contact Stroma that their name is the body on the certificate. You may already know but there are other bodies, NICEIC, ELECSA, NAPIT. The electrician may be registered with one of the other bodies. You don't need to be registered with a body to carry out...

    Alpha Domestic Gas Combined Boilers.

I have an Alpha combi, I think it's an eco30, in the house I rent out. It was fitted by recommendation of my gas engineer. It came with a 10 year guarantee. They've been around for a long time and I believe some years ago they used to be horrendous but are now owned by a different parent company...

Help Identifying Module in Consumer unit

I'm assuming you mean 3cm longer than the MCBs inside the board rather than sticking out of the front. You can get RCBO pods by some manufacturers that clip onto MCBs but this wouldn't make sense if the unit it is clipped to isn't an MCB. Other plug in modules are relays and surge protectors but...

    So, Tesla cars...

Most shop car parks you're limited to a couple of hours free parking after which you're fined, but who enforces that I don't know.
