I should have made it clear that I managed to remove one transformer and connect the new one but lights still not working. That is why I have to further my search for the fault by exposing the wiring which comes from the transformer as it is covered by floorboards. there could be a loose wire...

Well I got the new transformer but nothing is changed. I have been working up on the attic to try and trace the wire which comes from the transformer but it has been covered by floorboards and lots of carpeting by previous owners-probably for insulation. Thankfully the boards are not nailed...

I'm pleased to tell you I found the transformer under some flooring in the attic. I have sourced a new one and will go to buy it tomorrow. Thanks for all your help and advice. Don't worry about going off topic. It's good to lighten things up in these troubling times.😀😀

Thank you all so very much for taking the time and trouble with your help and advice. The bulbs are 12 v  20 w. I won't be able to look into this again for a couple of days but will let you know what happens.

Three bulbs and none are working.. House is about 12 years old. Not sure if they were installed as part of the original build or not.

We have a dual switchplate in the hall -one of the switches controls the spotlights in the hall. The other one controls the spotlights upstairs on the landing. There is also a switch upstairs on the landing which controls the landing lights. We have never had a problem with them until now...
