    Advice

@Mike Smith01 The average "DIY Multi meter" is high impedance, which in turn means that it can easily read "induced voltages" You will often get an induced voltage (also called ghost voltage) when you have a light(s) controlled by two switches (Typically on a landing, this is called two-way...

Why are you "adjusting" it. What happened prior to you touching it, did it not stop or the over run not work, or something else?

    Broken low voltage cable

You have answered your own question You would need to open the "plug" to get to the cable, but it will be welded closed, the only way to open it will be destructive. Some things are not repairable, this is one such thing.

Winter lights, wires cut, third core.

Almost all "Christmas lights" are made for as less money as possible, you would have thought there would be a transformer in the "Wall wart" but they went years ago, often now used is a "capacitive dropper" (Often just a capacitor in series with a bridge rectifier and a few resistors) In some...

    Hotpoint washing machine F05

Sorry to say, but last time I looked, washing machines do not have a drip tray or float switch, or flood protection. (Dishwashers do) As the days of washing machines being simple construction easy to fix have long gone they need dedicated people to fix them. To that amends I suggest you look in...

Need help with what amp fuse this plug socket would be

Plugs have fuses, sockets don't have fuses. Either way as you have the fuse why not look at it to see what rating it is. Damn, Andy beat me to it.

    Electrics tripping RCD

A multi meter is more use with electronics than "electrics" You can turn your fridge and freezer off for several hours with no problem, they are very well insulated to keep the cold in. Just remember you have un plugged them (so you can plug them back in 6 hours later, and do NOT open the door...
