Scottish Rentals require a current satisfactory EICR.........

Seems to me : Some Landlords feel they might need a certificate but if so it's more as an alternative to complete or up to date electrical safety than a guarantee Letting agents definitely want the certificate . . and their commission Plenty of people in the dark corners of the trade happy to...

Serious question Electricians vs People who do electrics

No - but I was being generous as very few cowboys are even borderline safe /competent

Serious question Electricians vs People who do electrics

I'm going to be very very liberal and say 'Studied and Knows enough to do it Safely'. That still rules most out . .

Serious question Electricians vs People who do electrics

Has anyone got an estimate for the ratio of unqualified unregistered 'local chaps everyone uses' vs actual qualified /registered electricians in their area I'd say 70% unqualified to 30% qualified round here in Herts

Adding another circuit to and old cu

Yep - millions of those still out there. Often work but 100mA sensitivity was never enough for proper protection - Yet most houses leaked 30 or 40 mA anyway so they got by 😂 Rated 80A so usually found on a 100A Suppliers fuse

    Chewing The Fat..... "Volt-Drop"...

As others have said the issue with old fashioned incandescent lamps inthe old days was that a small voltage change produced a large change in light output. So room lights dimmed when the kettle went on. Separate circuits helped a lot and the tighter volt drop requirement helped some more. It...

Connecting two power supply units for maximum output

The answer is that two regulated power supplies will only share the load if their voltages are identical at every level of load. If you have one set to 12.1V and one set to 11.9 the 11.9 one will do nothing until the 12.1 ones current limit is exceeded. Then it will fold back and the 11.9V one...

Bathroom fan signal live wire on a dimmer - okay or not?

The rising edge of the switched live turns the light and the timer supply on When the switched live falls the timer starts counting and as it does it supplies the fan from the permanent live unit it counts to zero What happens if the switched live is half way will vary by product

    Spray booth fan no earth

Regulator only specified for 220V Admittedly it wont fail at 221 V but indicates that no thought given to UK /EU regulations

How many amps can you plug into a 13 A 2 gang socket?

MK were the first to say that 20A max applied to their sockets

How many amps can you plug into a 13 A 2 gang socket?

And 20A total was for the nice MK ones Pretty sure any 26A rating would be intermittent loads (which many are) only

Tripped Switch But Now No Power

Once it goes wrong you'll know. The problem is that the manufacturer has tested a board full of their own devices under every possible temperature, load and abuse. If there's a failure in proper use you can reasonably blame them. If you put 'something that fits' in (maybe like you...

epever hybrid 5kw HI , low voltage disconnect changing parameters

Two things Not used that one but on smaller models I remember the interface (PC or LCD) was a bit clunky and for instance you couldn't raise a LV disconnect above a LV warning BUT The trouble with LV disconnects is that the on load voltage for AGM can seem really low while still technically...

    Downlight spacing

See if you can safely wire them up to see if the light output is what you need and how the light 'washes' the walls near the ceiling edges Remember that fitting locations may be determined by the ceiling contents/structure as well as your taste
