13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

Standard 4 ring hobb, Beko Model BIC62X. I googled it and struggled ! Edit: After searching a bit further, I found a similar hob, looks the same, same brand, and same power per ring. Here is the technical info from the manual:

13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

Thanks Andy - I am presuming it is down to the draw on the cable... if a 2.5mmsq cable is drawing 31.9 amps and the breaker doesn't trip, then the cable is at risk of melting isn't it? It's not designed to take 31.9? Maybe a ring main works differently. I'm not an electrician  Very...

13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

Yes, so a 6mm cable is protected by the 32A MCB, and downstream the 6mm oven cable would also be protected by that 32A MCB, but the hob on 2.5mm might be in trouble I think. The 45A isolator wouldn't really do much if the power can never be drawn over 32A... that's my understanding... The hob...

13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

Thanks Murdoch, I'm thinking the same. Would I be right in thinking should both hob and oven draw their maximum power, the 6mm cable will tolerate it ok all the way back to the MCB; and at their maximum, the 45A FCU shouldn't be affected (unless there's a fault), however, if attempting to draw...

13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

ProDave I haven't laughed so hard in a long time after reading your Plumber's van motto! The hob here draws max 29A as is 5.8kw, the diagram on the back indicates 2.5mmsq wiring. The oven is a 4-5kw from memory. Conveerting from an old one-stop-shop cooker (with no fancy timer!) and a huge red...

13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

Hi Everyone, Thank God winter is finished with for another trip around the sun. I'm just wondering - usually, a cooker is fed with a 10mm or 6mm sq cable to a 45A FCU with a big bright red button or light. But these days with a separate oven or hob needing a 13A supply, how would these be...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

What is all this, hijacking my thread! Still no show of my Leccy. Wondering now if I could actually come off the existing circuit via a 13A fused spur. I think that might be a good idea because then it doesn't matter if the existing circuit is a ring or a radial. And, I can place it so that if...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

There's a single pole fuse carrier (Wohner brand) 63A, and a General Electric breaker which is either single or double I can't tell but not wide enough for more.

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

I've just discovered that existing B20 on RCD2 for the new kitchen is a ring circuit. So another possible option, which would really save me a headache with the ceilings, is if it was changed to a B32 with a circuit max supply of about 30.4A (not considering diversity). That would allow me to...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

Ok, so I took some time today to refresh my memory on diversity and loadings etc. I've come up with a plan that I think will be straightforward for the electrician and allows me to get on with laying my floor. My current CU is a 2 way split load supplying a limit of 100A with 2x 63A RCDs. RCD 1...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

Thanks yes I should've mentioned the cable size is 2.5mm.. which I believe can handle between 25-35A..? all inherited old circuits.. and yes the washer and drier are on one twin socket! You are saying I need to separate them into two single sockets, one daisy chaining to the next? I can see how...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

Thanks a lot for your reply - so if I were to link it in to say the hallway circuit - I've calculated this as washing machine: 2kw dryer: 3kw boiler: 1.7kw (guessing) pump: .1kw Total 29.56A Might be too much for the 20A breaker? As is, I'm not sure a 20A is appropriate for a dryer and...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

Hi All, I'm at the cabling stage of my renovation. I have an old boiler and pump which just plug into a twin external socket. That socket is wired back to a 3A FCU and on to a 20A MCB. That MCB is housed in a small CU in an old kitchen extension with three or four other MCB's, which is wired...

    Alright all?

Hi Guys and Gals Just saying hello, I'm an ex-builder currently back at it renovating my own house. I joined because I have some electrics skills but they sometimes need refreshing. It's also good to be ahead of the curve when Mr Sparks arrives, so hopefully I can understand the problems better...
