Switching / wiring advice for Megaflow with 4x 3kw immersions?

I would be looking at Roof panels to help with the running costs and keep the installation simple with four radials and off peak so the bulk of power at night unless you have very deep pockets.

Hadrill & Horstmann lamp renovation ...wiring 101

If like the ebay image, the lamp frame is metal, it should be earthed. I would consider replacing the lamp holder with a brass version with the earth terminal. The later versions had this added for safety. Failing that unwind the earth cable of your cotton covered cable and earth the base of...

    Ring main return cable route

Apart from what’s been mentioned before. In my book its not good to run cables horizontally!

    Light switch move inspection

Yes, I would Change the blanked Socket chock block for Wago’s. It is important that you inform the Electrician who is testing and inspecting your work about your mod as he will need to check wring continuity and Earth loop. I don’t know the laws in Ireland but you have already done the mod so...

    Light switch move inspection

If you use Wago 222 and 773 they are classed as maintanance free and are better than chock block. The comments made in previous posts are correct. If in doubt turn everything off. Ideally you need to do what they call dead tests before energising the circuit and because you rerunning...

    relocating a 17th ed db

Surely Any work involving the installation of new circuits to a board means that it must comply with the latest regs ie. New metal consumer unit with current protection per regs. You may be merging boards but it is still an installation!

    MR16 GU5.3/GX5.3 led lights

12v LED require a LED constant current driver unit, otherwise they will not work. You either need to fit the above or as stated by BorisJ you need to re cable and fit GU10 mains fittings

Basic Lighting Question - Halogen/normal to LED conversion

If you are changing 12v halogen to 12v LED the transformers need to be changed to LED drivers as they are what they call “constant current”. If changing from 12v to 230v Led, you need to remove the transformers and connect direct to the lighting circuit. As pointed out earlier any 230v...

    Heating wired thermostat

Hi. In the airing cupboard (probably) there will be a control box where all the cables went to operate the old system which may or may not be redundant now. If the new boiler is combi the connections are in the new boiler.

    Changing a light switch

Trailer boy is correct. The blue cable is a functional conductor only for the dimmer switch to operate. When a normal switch is used it is not required so just terminate in an insulated connector.

Light works but extractor in EnSuite isn't

Unless some person in the past has used an earth cable as a phase conductor!! The fan will be double insulated so someone thought Don’t need the earth I will use it as the switched fan feed!!

Removed 2 powered smoke alarms connected to lighting circuit

You could have fitted a plaserboard conduit round back box in the celling (they are smaller) made off the cables properly using Wago connectors. You must connect the earth as it is almost definitely looped through to other fittings. Then fit the new battery operated alarm on top of the conduit...

Curing phantom voltage causing new LED lights to be on dim when switched off

You could fit a double pole (switching both live and neutral supply) switch if it is not two way switching. Obviously a little rewiring is required.

Numpty (me) damaged 2.5 TE cable in plastered wall

That’s the way I would go. The good thing about it is the junction box will always be accessible. The only change I would make is to fit a split double back box so you can have a socket and a fused spur. It just gives you a bit more flexibility.

    Electrics suddenly switch off

It does sound like a loose connection on the incoming supply given more than one circuit is effected, so either on the main switch terminals or the cut out if the tails have been moved or disturbed.

    Non Harmonised colours

There is nothing wrong electrically.  Just unusual to find Black and blue in twin and earth.  Three core and earth, yes Plus brown.  Just wondered what country used that combination.

    Non Harmonised colours

Hi all.  Where as I realise it is against the regs to use non harmonised colours, I was working in a domestic setting yesterday on a lighting circuit and came across 1.5mm twin and earth but the cable colours were “Blue and Black” does anyone know what country uses this colour coded cable?
