    NICEIC initial assessment

I'm confused, are they wearing suits or PJs? :innocent

    NICEIC initial assessment

Why can't you certificate your work? If you employ qualified sparks, then download some bs7671 forms, fill them in and sign them. Unless you need niceic name for some insurance company, or to make your customer feel re-assured.

    NICEIC initial assessment

It makes no sense to become an approved contractor if you are only doing 1 or 2 jobs per year. For the cost of your membership, test equipment, training etc. getting a spark to pop around once or twice a year and install it seems much cheaper and far less stress

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.

dead tests- continuity of blood conductors, inhalation resistance live tests- hilarity, poop impedance and arsenal detesting

Architrave dry lining back box ??

I can see how a box with brackets bolted on can be pushed through the hole (with cable inserted), twisted and pulled into position. But what stops it falling out into the cavity and being lost? if not during installation, then during any maintenance.

Architrave dry lining back box ??

cut the hole same size as box, use bits of wood with gripfil on to stick to back of pb on each side, wait, drill holes in side of box and screw to wood you might have trouble with safe zones above and below as the switches are very narrow

Unbalanced loads on a 3 phase RCD

Oldish thread, sorry. But 411.3.2.6 says that if TT disconnection time of 1 second can't be achieved then supplementary bonding shall be provided according to 415.2 I still think that if the supply s-type 100mA RCD trips (the earth fault being downstream of it), then another s-type 100mA RCD on...

DPC - Please comment on the BSI site.

Something like https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/compare-documents.html or https://comparesuite.com/compare-pdf-documents.html (free 30-day trial)

@Sidewinder you have the digital version of the byb, is there a way to compare the two documents to get a list of the diffs? Apart from the obvious section 8 of course.

Yeah it doesn't show the differences, no vertical lines to the side of new regs. Its a case of reading PDF and checking byb. What a pain.

it is a bit easier to read if you download the pdf and view it in a reader. You have to use the BSI site to add/view comments though.

High pitch whine from walls - going crazy please help!

We had a similar incident when stripping out a bedroom, power was completely off but we still heard a humming noise. Eventually found a vibrator which was on in one of the client's bedside drawers.

    sick to death of "secrets"

Not sure if you people are aware of Mobdro, a free app for android phones and tablets, which allows you to stream tv channels from around the world. I have only really used it to watch premiership footie matches on sky sports and bt sports, but there is a huge selection of channels, possibly...

    Ring or radial please?

Apparently so, http://www.niceic.com/medialib/www.niceic.com/Schemes/DIS-Regsitration-Guide-March-17.pdf page 14 shows 5 ways to be qualified to be a DI QS, not all are short courses.

Unbalanced loads on a 3 phase RCD

I think I see why. On the mans supply, the neutral will be referenced to earth at the transformer. When the mains DP RCD trips, that reference is lost and the live conductors from the solar are only referenced to earth via the earthing at the inverter. This could be of higher resistance...
