    Downlight Fitting swap in ensuite

I cant find the part B 2000 amd 2002 volume 1 of the building regs, although I have volume 2 on my hard drive relating to non-domestic. Intumescent hoods have been a requirement much earlier than 2000 though, to keep the fire rating of the ceiling being compromised by drilling holes in it. So...

    Downlight Fitting swap in ensuite

Both existing and new are not fire rated, and they should be. The same manufacturer does a fire rated downlight http://www.valuelights.co.uk/fire-rated-gu10-chrome-downlight.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp5e9raaH2AIVq7DtCh2PHA5cEAQYASABEgIHofD_BwE

    Downlight Fitting swap in ensuite

If there is another flat upstairs, all your ceiling downlights should really be fire rated, those bathroom ones don't appear to be.

New cabling behind wooden door frame

Just another thought, it would have been fine to put the cable vertically behind the architrave IF an architrave switch was installed on it. Something like this Edit; also, perhaps he damaged the cable himself screwing the light to the wall

New cabling behind wooden door frame

That all looks like first fix to me. Is he coming back to put on the switches etc? I don't understand how he has been paid 95% of the 5K and the job is not finished or apparently even tested (none of the cores have been exposed, I haven't a clue what "safety tests" have been done. Unless he...

Sometimes you wonder .... .. what am I doing up here?

A sparky I know who worked for British Gas stepped on something he thought was solid in a loft and went crashing through a sheet of glass into the hall below. Luckily he was alright, nothing really major. That photo reminded me of it. I can't see that loft latch holding much weight

New cabling behind wooden door frame

I agree with Evans and Andy, but a bit unclear as to the route the cable takes. Is the door between the switch and the light? And the sparky went across, up, over and down behind the future architrave, then across to the light? How thick is the wall, and how deep did he put it? Pics would be lovely.

    new oven

I agree, made worse by the socket being installed directly behind the oven, so the oven adds its own heating effect. I have seen ovens in contact with the back of the plug.

    ADVICE REGARDING CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM

If it is hydrogen, the system is completely sludged up and would possibly explain why HW is not working. The system will need cleaning out and inhibitor added. This process could uncover pinholes in the radiators and this would mean replacement. The landlord would be at fault because he/she...

    ADVICE REGARDING CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM

June last year is nearly 1 and 1/2 years, without hot water.  You say Honeywell boiler, but as far as I know, Honeywell only do controls. What boiler is it exactly? Electric/gas? Having to constantly bleed the radiators suggests there is heavy corrosion in the system. Be careful, the gas...

    Armeg Limited

Me again Phil. Reading your Torque Screwdriver Set page the Paragraph inset stating why you need a torque screwdriver is quoting an out-of date reg.  BS7671 2008 Amd 3 134.1.1 now states "Good workmanship by skilled or instructed persons and proper materials shall be used in the erection of the...

    What on Earth?

looking at Wikipedia page there is a graph showing skin depth against frequency. Steel at 50Hz has a depth of 2mm, so the 6mm x 1mm strip would not be affected by the skin effect. So bg nexus tech is wrong. Good job too in this instance as the worry is overheating of the steel under earth fault...
