    Advice Required on Career choice

In the modern world it is becoming more and more common to be a domestic only electrician. As long as you stick to what you know there is no issue. It becomes an issue when a domestic only electrician ventures into other areas.

    Conduit around cylindrical structures

We do a lot of these in railway arches. Forget maths. Just need an eye and bend each 'kink' a lot lot less than you think.

No. Your USP should increase interest which in turn means increased orders and then increased rate. Your USP may be idiotic to someone else.  Just having a USP is not an automatic right to increase rates. What I mean is you should know all this before making the decision to go it alone.

Supply and demand  :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin: No mate. You need to get all this right before you take the plunge mate.

Your USP is your own opinion. My USP could be that I will be the safest company in the UK. Does this give me the automatic right to charge 20% more than anyone else?  Of course not. . The market will decide what my rate is. No one else. A USP does not give you the right to charge whatever. Only...

See it was the opposite for me. NICEIC membership is still respected in my area of work. Without it you are a chancer.

But that will not automatically mean you can charge more. If your USP works and demand rises then you can charge more.

Supply and demand forces an increase in rates not a scheme membership if you feel being a member of a scheme gives you more work then by default your prices will increase.  Do do not think that just because you have paid £500 for NICEIC membership you have the right to charge more. Supply and...

You can purchase certificates from anywhere. The only real reasons you would need/want to join a scheme would be: 1. A certain client insists on it.  2. You want to use the badge to promote yourself.  3. You want to sign your own work off with LABC.

What is the issue with the 50/50 split Steps?  Just curious.

Go for it. Be prepared to put in the hours, act professionally and keep your prices keen and you will get there. If you feel NICEIC registration will give you an edge go for it. You have a regular job so you can afford to get these things in place and not worry (too much) if you get an immediate...

Safe electrical isolation check before servicing boiler

Depends on how you define an engineer. Oxfors English dictionary defines them as engineers.

    New Top Gear

Was not great. Still neither was Top Gear when Clarkson first took it over.  The Reliant race was a stupid idea as was the army truck thing. The one car trying to hunt down and shoot the other car has been done to death also. Trying far too hard to be like it was when we all know what made it...

    Landline telephones .

Nope. Never needed one. Still fill in loads of forms requesting a fax number though.

Both those examples of testing do not meet the HSE guidance on safe isolation. If they are asking you to work to these guidelines then you must challenge them under H&S.

    Landline telephones .

Home phone is never used. Office is use a lot. I think it is professional to have a fixed line when running a business.

    incomplete certification

My advice would be to contact the builder and offer a negotiation in order to settle this dispute so all parties are happy.  There are always two side to every story so without the builder here to defend themselves it is difficult to comment.  Having said that it is protected under UK law that...
