    First kid on the block:

Got these Tuesday, the bar is run of the mill. The coins are the first published on the net.

A freebie from the IET ???????????

Addendums should be free, they make a cock up every time they issue a new edition or an amendment and they have to put it right. For once the septics have it right. NFPA-NEC is issued on a three year cycle. Where it goes a bit wonky is each state legislature has to approve the codes. Some...

    Four Evocative sounds

One I want to hear is my son CarlS saying “the biopsy is clear”.

    A new start

PAT testing was our company’s version of “punishment detail”. Screw up on a job and you were on PAT testing for a month. Why would anyone want to do it?

    How daft can you get?

I think I’ve found I have one duff Canadian anniversary maple, the 25th commemorative 1ozT. The dimensions are correct, it looks correct but its 20mg overweight. I’ve arranged for a NDT (Non Destructive Test) to be done on it. If it is a fake, it will have a clout from a hammer and chisel...

Please allow me to introduce myself

It's a bar steward of an idea, someone sneezes near it and it goes haywire. I must do something about that bloody smiley on  the DC motor! It's annoying me now!

Please allow me to introduce myself

Only if I could go on the kilns, I’ve an aversion to being cold. When I retired I’d worked on 41 different kilns and furnaces.

Please allow me to introduce myself

Fun wouldn’t be my choice ether. Six quarry navies each with three WL systems and two OH cranes = one almighty headache.

Ward Leonard isn’t easiest control system to understand. Good to have another member that’s worked on it.

So, go on then.....how are you meant to connect this up

The BIL used “chicken” tiles in the bathroom. Nice job until I mentioned chickens, he’s lay in the bath and had chickens running around his head. I got a phone call “you b*****d!”

    Where is the £ going?

Things are getting ridiculous. I'm out of the market until the bubble bursts or Boris gets the order of the boot.

Changes to reg 411.3.3 PEN Conductor.

That is similar to SWER (single wire, earth return) used for MV distribution in some countries. Thank god it’s not allowed here.

    So, HS2

At least the continentals have a good railway system, more can be said of this benighted country. NIMBY attitudes cause so much delay and added expense to most UK projects.

    So, HS2

How much have the many committees and public enquiries cost? If they used some common sense they would reinstate the Great Central line. It was built to the continental loading gauge in anticipation of through traffic. As it is there’s housing estates, etc, built on it. France wouldn’t...

'Aint no cure for the summertime blues .

Mum and I were stood at the front door when Apollo 11 landed (July 20, 1969). At that moment a torrential downpour started. It’s the Americans fault! My friend is a astronomical fanatic so I bought him this.

'Aint no cure for the summertime blues .

School summer holidays were always hot. You could run about with your mates nigh on all day, every day. I blame the Americans.

Things you find in a loft

25+ years ago the wife and I cleared the loft and shed out. Three skips and lots of arguments later I could start building my darkroom. We were both hoarders hence the arguments. Having the skip outside became like a swap meet, not quite as bad as the Citroen 2CV in Meldrew’s skip.

    Changing Job

Try it on a part time basis, weekends and such.

    Changing Job

I was an indentured industrial apprentice, no way would I go in to general contracting. OK there was muck and grease, I enjoyed it and had a reliable income. I ran several (non associated) companies on the side, the bookkeeping drove me up the bloody wall! It’s up to you, if you like hours of...
