Unbalanced loads on a 3 phase RCD

Surely if the inverter is referenced to true earth, then an s-type 100mA rcd on the output of the inverter will trip within 500ms, about the same time as the s-type 100mA RCD on the mains side tripping, from the same fault. If both RCDs trip according to standards, disconnection of both supplies...

Unbalanced loads on a 3 phase RCD

Would another 100mA s-type RCD installed at the output of the inverter provide the required disconnection time?

    Earthing cable tray

Are all circuits 30mA RCD protected? Carrying full load? grouping factor?

    Oven with 13amp plug

if the cable marked in red reaches the double socket in the next cupboard (without touching the gas pipe), get rid of all other cables and feed the double socket from the red cable. then plug your newish cooker into that, seem the best way. I assume the gas hob is plugged into it too. Why are...

    metal Cu earth straps

My concern is that due to the design of Amd3 boards, householders are being exposed to a danger which before Amd3 they weren't. The act of holding onto the lid connects the householder directly to the earthing system, we like to think that the whole house is within the equipotential zone, but...

    metal Cu earth straps

TNCS with broken PEN? Someone will die from this sooner or later, who will be in the dock? LFB? IET? Me?

    metal Cu earth straps

I was thinking more of the Earthing conductors carrying a fault current for the period of time it takes for the re-energised mcb/rcd to re-trip, and the householder completing part of the earth fault path.

    metal Cu earth straps

The front covers usually have a drop-down flap which would be held up by the householder when re-energizing a tripped mcb/rcd. The extra bonding, I assume, is provided by the OEM to try and mitigate the effects of holding on to a bit of metal connected to the earth when doing so. Hopefully...

    living room light replacement

Cheltenham Festival of Racing 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of March, seems like a plan is coming together. Edit; who will bring their testing kit?

    Crazy one from the weekend

The cpc for the lighting circuit might be carrying 8mA leakage current from another energized circuit, by being connected to shared metalwork. Your RCBO would not have "seen" the 8mA because it didn't come from it's live conductors.

    living room light replacement

How many lighting circuits are there in the fusebox? Did you put those connector blocks on the reds and blacks in the first picture? Are they the ones you are sure of? The single red wire in a cable (with earth wire), is it twin and earth with the black wire cut back?

    Touring site eicr

It is late, but surely there would always be a step voltage potential, as a direct result of fault 1, due to the distance from the TX (and from the last rod in the PME system (if it is PME and not TNCS)). Admittedly the danger would be greater if there was a fault current or loss of PEN...

    Touring site eicr

you know I don't do EICRs, but according to 708.411.4, connecting a PME earthing facility to the metalwork of the caravan would be against ESQCR, this should be enough to warrant a C1. The notes in the guidance for EICRs in Appendix 6 (p 427) concern only whether danger is present, not...

Help - extending plug socket cable

it looks like you will need to use crimped or maintenance-free connections, as any other type need to be inspectable. this includes those connections within the FCU on the right (and the other double socket on the left?). The earth wires within the extending cables need to be connected and there...

    Question about 5amp sockets

A customer of mine has a lutron system fitted in the bedroom. The lights can be programmed at the wall, and using an RC hand unit, to come on in banks and at different light levels. Having anything other than lights plugged in, eg phone charger, might be dodgy if dimmed.

    What is this?...

reminds me of the joke about little Johnny at school. Teacher says "tomorrow, I want you to bring in anything to do with medicine and hospitals". So the kids bring in bandages, plasters etc except Johnny Teacher "and what have you brought in Johnny?" J "It's outside Miss, too big to bring in"...

    A puzzling one from today

just spoke with contactum tech, they seem to think that there is an inductive load somewhere on the circuit which is holding the voltage up and delaying the trip. It could be the piezo-electric circuit in the hob/oven ignition. It might be that the cooker was not disconnected from the circuit...
