    Security of electrical supply

Being registered as disabled Eon have to provide a temporary power supply after four hours. Previously while living in the wilds at 1000Ft above MSL I had a 7kW Lister set permanently installed in an outhouse. In winter the power could be off for days on end. Normally the supply was TT, with...

    Armoured cable connections

The only time I’ve used any form of ducting was steel pipe under roads and railway lines. Normally it would be direct buried with a good sand bed in the trench, working in a quarry sand was plentiful. For a one mile cable run I calculated 150 tons of sand were needed, it actually totalled 220...

    Vehicle Road tax

I’ve used the same taxi firm for over fifteen years, I trust them and they trust me.

    How daft can you get?

The scales are now ensconced on my mantelshelf. I’ll post pictures tomorrow.

    Vehicle Road tax

I didn’t go anywhere further than the front gate. I hired the taxi to pick up the scales.

    Vehicle Road tax

I’m entitled to a blue badge and a motorbility car but I’ve never chased it up, simple reason, I never go anywhere.

    Armoured cable connections

If the meter cabinet hasn’t been built yet make room for a distribution board that can split the three feeders. I would be wanting some form of cable from the house to the well pump for monitoring. More than once I’ve been called to farms where the borehole pump has failed, the first anyone...

    Napit and Stroma

That’s what I’ve being saying for years. America for once got it right, electricians have to be licensed to trade. They also have JHA’s (Jurisdiction Having Authority) that inspect work to ensure it’s up to NFPA-NEC standards. BC with teeth 🤩 What this SparkSafe licence is supposed to be I...

    Computer games

My first computer was a Commodore 64. Next came a 80286 with 2MB of memory! Years rolled by and I built a 80486DX4 with two ancillary 80286 CPU’s. Two 32MB memory sticks cost £400 each, add to that the two ancillary CPU’s had 4MB each. Now your phone has more computing power. At work when we...

    Electric Pulley System?

The motor I’d use is a Drayton with a built in gearbox. Output shaft 1.2 RPM with enough torque to break your wrist. Control, a mini PLC would be the best bet. It all comes down to cost and it ain’t going to be cheap. There again, how much is a tortoise worth? Ethically I have a problem with...

    Electric Pulley System?

How much are you willing to spend? The answer to the question will govern how well it works.

    How daft can you get?

Thank you for the thought of helping out. I’ll get it sorted one way or another. It’s a long time since I’ve been back to Derbyshire so it will be a day out for a photographic expedition. If you would like to meet up somewhere then we can arrange a time and place.

    How daft can you get?

I’m in Nottingham, Ashbourne is about five miles north, north west of Derby on the A52 / A515. Not a major problem if you can drive. It was my choice to stop driving due to suffering blackouts. I couldn’t give a damn about my life, I’m not going to be responsible for taking someone else’s life...

    How daft can you get?

I’m hiring a car to collect it. Its come down to “I want it” and I’ll do what’s required to get the bloody thing!

    How daft can you get?

I was brought up with them Roy. The days when you learnt about physics and chemistry at school. Chasing blobs of mercury around the desk and catching it in your hand as it fell off the edge. Could you see a teacher showing a class how to make gunpowder these days?

    How daft can you get?

It seemed like a good idea at the time. I bought a set of laboratory scales this morning for what was a good price, the rub was “buyer collects” and I don’t drive! So I’ve now got a lump of glass, mahogany and brass thirty five miles away that’s going to cost a small fortune to get on to my...

    Electrical Drawings

Legally I’m not sure, ethically you should. I’ve been on plants where the drawings were nonexistent. Fault finding time = T². T being the length of a piece of string measured in time.

    Well that was heavy

Possibly because you didn’t have the manpower nor the necessity to get tons of replacement cable in quickly. Twelve days and a 6 MVA substation up sticks and moved without loosing vital supplies.
