    HELP Tripping problems

I apologies as mentioned you probably didn't notice, I am not qualified. I am in my second year apprenticeship so I understand you frustration when I lack in knowledge. I shall take your advice and I shall assume that it is completely faulty. I do not have any test gear at all so this is as far...

    HELP Tripping problems

Actually I live in a house. There is a sizeable space between the second floor ceiling and the floor of the loft so I don’t believe squishing is the issue since that has never happened when anyone has entered the loft. Besides I believe the cables may be in joists in the loft floor space. The...

    HELP Tripping problems

Apologies for the long messages. It is late for me and I have a job to get to in the morning. I’ll get some photos for you soon. Seems a little odd about the RCD tripping yet those items have always been constantly running.

    HELP Tripping problems

As I said I shall post a photo as soon as I can! I don’t have any time tonight as I have quite some work to do but I shall share a photo of the loft circuitry and my consumer board tomorrow if I get chance :)  . I am aware that RCD’s work on an imbalance between the Neutral and Line...

    HELP Tripping problems

The upstairs lighting circuit controls the second floor and the loft circuits on a 16A MCB if that’s what you were getting at if not please explain :) Yes 4 MCB’s are directly adjacent to each other with an RCD as well. Assuming that the MCB’s are fed from the RCD. There are 2 separate...

    HELP Tripping problems

Whoops, I am on mobile. Didn’t realise that there was 2 pages :0. When I switch on the loft lights, almost immediately the ring for the downstairs sockets trips. Sometimes immediately if there is some load on there. The DB is some way from the loft but I’ll show some picture evidence shortly.

    HELP Tripping problems

Yeah mate it’ll be tricky but I’ll make another look when I get time :)  super strange I wasn’t able to get it up before so the adequate force. I wasn’t looking for vermin themselves but the damage from them on the installation possibly.   Just to give you some context: you get into the...

    HELP Tripping problems

No they did not think to ask, I am not about to start ripping carpet and floorboards up since it is a main walkway through the house 😁. They are young professionals yes.

    HELP Tripping problems

I can do that. We did have some mice running around under our floor a short while ago which again I suspect this may be the issue as they were coming up from the void next to the walls where supposedly some of the cables run.

    HELP Tripping problems

As far as I am aware from visual inspection, all the loft lights are on the same circuit. The Loft sockets are not on the same circuit as the loft lights nor are they connected to the first floor sockets. There seems to be 2 32A sockets circuits on bs60898 mcbs. One for the first floor and one...

    HELP Tripping problems

Sorry for the late reply guys 😕 I have not fitted these fluorescents recently. They were fitted some time ago when we had our loft renovated but this was around 10 years ago. The issue has only occured in the last few months. I am positive it isn't an install issue. I will mention this to a...

    HELP Tripping problems

The downstairs floor is suspended yes. There is around a 2-3 metres of open space under the floorboards. It is absolutely the MCB tripping not the RCD and yes it is rated at 32A for the downstairs socket circuit. The power for the fluorescents is taken from a separate lighting circuit on a 16A...

    HELP Tripping problems

Other than that I am not sure of what else could be the cause of the issue. If you have any ideas that would be great.

    HELP Tripping problems

Yes just a singular RCD. The RCD is fine. What strikes me as odd is that the MCB that controls the loft lighting circuit stays on while an unrelated separate circuit is disconnected. Water or rodent damage is likely.

    HELP Tripping problems

Thank you for the reply. There has been no DIY or fuseboard replacement work been carried out. This issue has only been happening within around a few months. Each of the MCB circuits within the DB are protected under an RCD no RCBO's. I have not suspected any water or rodent damage under...

    HELP Tripping problems

Help, I am having problems with tripping in my home. Whenever I switch on my fluorescent lights in my loft space my downstairs ring socket circuit trips. The loft lights stay on and the sockets switch off. This has only happened recently and they are not on the same circuit. Cheers.
