    LED lighting help needed

Geoff, I did the same with my caravan, they didn't work, it turned out that the driver was running an AC output, iirc a lot of the old 12v halogen stuff as sold in the likes of the big orange shed was just a step down transformer, AC in AC out, a real pita if you can't easily get at the transformer.

    Christmas display 2021 lighting controllers

Oh well, if we're going to be critical shouldn't you be using red and black for your DC circuits😁 yes I know, and the second word of your reply is off lol. Seriously though what controller are you using, I'm actually quite interested, I used to do massive lighting displays for Christmas years...

Help with installing Meross smart light switch

my daughter in law moved into her new house (new to them) and promptly decorated, a few weeks later she rings up she wants some new lights fitting so round I go, not only has she got lights, but also these rather attractive (her words not mine) light switches 'without those horrible screws...

    Christmas display 2021 lighting controllers

I'm rather fond of those Wiska grommets too, they are like a blind grommet with an integral cord grip, you fit it in the hole, poke the cable through the skin and it self seals, tell you what it's as tight as a virgins, when it's fitted, just remember to put the grommet in the hole before...

    The Vaccine...

Cheers guys, it gaver me a chuckle reading the comments, as for the house it's quite funny, I took over the runing of it a while ago when I first lost my job and enjoy driving the wife nuts, I'll do the washing and the hoovering and the cooking, the only thing I won't do is the ironing, I...

    The Vaccine...

I need to do something but since all of this it's getting to me, I haven't got anywhere nice to walk, I live on a large estate and it's got full of idiots lately and since I stopped working I seem to have developed lots of problems, I was told years ago I needed a knee replacement but it wasn't...

TV thinking I'm in the Highlands!

Modern tv's don't lose their memory when they are unplugged, if the tv has been used in another area it will have retained it's settings from there, so if for example you took a tv from London and took it to Scotland it would try to work on the settings it had from London, it may even receive a...

    The Vaccine...

I've got very little to do at the moment and any work I could do at home is outside and it's too bloody cold, I'm stuck in the house and am starting to behave like a prisoner doing a life sentence in that I'm trying to sleep as long as I can, sometimes using tablets sometimes not! today I got up...

    Qualification Route

Over the years I've had a few apprentices and they have all ended up as very good sparks and for one reason, they WANTED to be sparks! I was 'given' several young lads to train at various companies not all of them made is, one didn't even last a day, in one firm we'd have them on rotation to...

    2021 holidays

I,ve booked mine for Easter and I am going come hell or high water! Last year I bought a touring caravan and didn't get chance to use it, I keep it up at a mates farm, now the rules say you can only travel for certain reasons one being work, well I'm down as his on call maintenance engineer, so...

    The Vaccine...

I think the only thing that pisses me off about this is the way it's been handled, I could have done a hell of a lot better myself. In the beginning we should have closed all ports and airports, nothing in and nothing out. We should not have had this regional tier ****e, it should have been...

    The Vaccine...

No, but the symptoms were exactly the same as people are presenting with now, we just thought it was a really bad dose of flu.

Which is where the term 'good for continued service' comes in! just because it's old doesn't mean it's no good, look at a lot of us on here, we might be old and approaching retirement, but we can still run rings around some of the younger sparks, so I guess you could say we're still good for...

    Fire sealing a consumer unit.

The thing is, when I spoke to this guy he was trying to make out the there was no way a fire could get out of one of their CU's, there's not a lot to stop it getting out if there's a ruddy great hole in the back is there, it doesn't matter where it gets out, if it can get out from anywhere it...

Am I the only one not doing much work at the moment?

I'm dead in the water at the minute, I lost my job on the railway and went back working for myself, I've always had people ringing me up for jobs but now nothing, people seem to be hanging onto their cash, they don't know whats around the corner.I can't get any benefits either so it isn't good...

    The Vaccine...

Both myself and my wife have had Covid, that was in March 2019, well before it hit the press, I went down with it first and just thought it was a really bad dose of the flu, it got rapidly worse and for three days I was struggling to breathe, I just put this down to smoking, then the wife got...

    Wow, wow, wow

I did a board change for a mate recently, "does it need a rewire?" he asked, I thought for a minute then replied, "well it all depends" he looked at me then said, "depends on what, either it does or it doesn't" , He was amazed when I explained that as it stood, I could either pretend I was...

    scope of EICR inside/outside flat

With regards to the frequency of an EICR in rental properties I know that most if not all large social landlords, housing associations, councils, etc do an EICR at every change of tenancy. I used to do EICR's for a chap I knew who rented a number of properties and I used to do his at every...

    MCB/RCD on consumer unit tripping

I remember Tony telling me he'd spoken to quite a few yanks on forums and they didn't like AFDD's either. I think it's a sad indictment of the way our industry is going when too many people involved in making up our regs seem to have a vested interest in the equipment they are recommending, by...
