    Why considiring the ROI?

The DNO said there could be problems with overvoltages causing problems for our neighbours if we exported over the limit they had modelled for our situation. Don't know how that would manifest itself or whether the rep was just trying to make sure we didn't go over the limit.

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

Yeah, that's a lot. Hopefully, Octopus will sort you out soon. After all, someone else is getting paid for the power you're generating! Our 3.6kw install tops out around 2.6kw export as our panels face 3 different directions. I'll never get any export tariff as I'm DIY and our power is clearly...

    Solar Panels on Leanto

Just email planning and give them a drawing with dimensions etc. I used libre office draw. Doesn't need to be an architectural quality drawing. I found this was acceptable with planning in Carmarthenshire. From what you describe, I reckon they'll just come back and tell you it comes under...

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

We generate more than we can use at the moment. Once the battery is installed that will reduce a bit but there will still be times I'm exporting for no return. It's power I just don't have a use for at the moment. I don't mind as I see it as paying towards my historic carbon emissions and...

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

Yes, you're right. I should have said 'an interesting use of a heat pump'. It will all come down to cost as to whether it's worthwhile. We had solar thermal on our last property which I DIY installed over 15 years ago. The cost was about £1500 and included a new twin coil tank. We could pretty...

    Why considiring the ROI?

😂. I bet you'd be in a **** load of trouble if you were found to be causing damage!

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

I've just looked online at this. A good innovation. The advantage over solar thermal is that you have guaranteed hot water. Wonder how efficient it is,..., and how much it costs?.

    Why considiring the ROI?

You're probably right. It always annoys me when the authorities are weak. If something makes sense for the majority it should just happen regardless of the objections from the few.

Which wattage of inverter to pick?

I agree. I have only really taken into account making the most of our solar power. The ability to charge using cheap rate electricity is something else to take into account. It's something I could do by adding more batteries at a later date. We are presently with EON on their consumer-protected...

    Why considiring the ROI?

Perhaps there should be a flow chart available for the safe installation of solar. It should include information such as the need for non-sharing of RCDs and what circuits are notifiable etc. The DNO could stipulate that the system cannot become live until it has been signed off by an...

Which wattage of inverter to pick?

My first thought is that you will be creating some serious generation and exporting a lot during the summer months, even with option 1. The 4kwh you draw from the grid is mostly your evening and nighttime use. I suspect that you are exporting more than that during the day with your current...

    Why considiring the ROI?

As my install is DIY I bet they wouldn't allow me to gain anything from it. My smart meter shows when I'm exporting and presumably is able to tally it. Why can't I be paid despite not having had an MSC installation? It would increase the ROI and encourage others to do the same.

Which wattage of inverter to pick?

Yes. If you're retrofitting you'll have a better idea of size battery you need. We use around 3kwh/day from the grid during the sunnier months. I also looked at our production during the other months as it would be pointless overspending on a bigger battery that won't get filled up. I've...

Which wattage of inverter to pick?

The inverter effectively shuts down the panels to only allow the limit it has been set to as I understand it.

    Why considiring the ROI?

Excellent point. This is exactly what happened with our recent EPC. In fact, we were recommended to have solar water heating to improve it further...We have a solar diverter!!! I told the administrating quango...No sensible response...No surprise.

Which wattage of inverter to pick?

It's a setting on the inverter. So the inverter above can supply 6kw to your home circuits but you set it up to send a maximum of 3.6kw back to the grid. It does this by sensing which way the electrical flow is going.

    Why considiring the ROI?

Did you install yourself or was this an MSC installation with a FIT? Mine is DIY with no FIT, and a back of a *** packet calculation is giving me at least 20% now.:)

Blimey!...That's not good. Hope that was all replaced under guarantee?

    Why considiring the ROI?

Energy costs have nearly tripled in a year. Last year I was paying 10.3p/kwh. It's now 28.3p with a further rise to come in October. The payback time for my system is now 4-5 years, which will decrease as energy prices rise. 25% roi. Not many investments can reliably compete with that...
